I've only just started working with the staff view, but one thing that's making it not great IMO is I can't seem to find a way to lay it out like it's on the sheet of paper rather than continuously horizontal like in PRV. Is there a way I'm missing even after reading through the documents?
Digital Performer has the kind of staff view you're referring to. It's laid out like an letter-size piece of paper, good for scoring piano music, songs and pieces with few instruments.
Sonar's staff view, as you mention, is the continuously scrolling model. I think it is superior for large-scale orchestrating and arranging for many instruments because of this feature. It's modeled after a traditional arranger's or orchestrator's large music paper.
I use Sonar's staff view also for short pieces with few instruments. I prefer infinite scrolling to Digital Performer's sheet-music model, but you may not.
