Rain
Man, I wished...

I managed to borrow a little Tascam 4 track in... 1995. The guy was from out of town, and he had such cool gear. He lent me that and a guitar with a MIDI pickup, a Roland sound module, and a Roland amp sim for a few days while he was away. I wrote and recorded one or two songs everyday.

Christmas 96, I inherited my girlfriend's dad's old Sony reel to reel. And a pile of brand new tapes, in their plastic casing. Classy. It wasn't long before I'd filled the whole thing. It was "two-tracks" in that you could record left and right separately, so I'd ping-pong between both "channels", overdubbing live in the process.

That - and a Akai XR-10 that belonged to a friend - was my studio until mid-1999, when I finally got my first PC and Cakewalk Guitar Studio.

Christmas 1987 I got my first electric guitar...a horrible Strat copy (CSL Blazer - I think they might have been related to Ibanez) which came with the most ridiculously bad sounding amp called an Image Imp. The amp speaker distorted if you turned it up full blast - the worst fuzz tone ever. But oh my I spent the whole day playing the riff to Beatin' Around The Bush on that thing. I'd dig out a photo but I suspect I was wearing leather pants so let's just leave it at that....

I had the 688, I loved that thing.
stripe track 8 with sempte, sync to Cakewalk 3.0.
7 vocal and guitar tracks open.
Never again were the Drummer and Bassist late for (or absent from) rehearsal.
Those were my "good 'ol days"!

Hi,

Never got anything for Christmas that had to do with music ... other than the albums I bought somewhere here or there.

In Portugal and Brazil it was always some new underwear or t-shirts, and then in America for the firs 4 years, the same thing ... so for the first 20 years ... all clothing ... no music at all! But Dad always got a new opera or symphony or something, and the best of them was probably 62 or 63 when he got Turandot with Nilsson and Tebaldi ... that was some duet ... still the best I have ever heard ... with Leinsdorf directing. You should really hear that Rain!

I received one of these and I was the happiest 16 year old on the face of the entire  earth!

Wha...!?  :-O  That is exactly the beast I had (2nd hand).  I had that, my strat, a knackered old bass and a TR-909.  Beyond doubt the most productive I've ever been.  Most of what I did was kinda rubbish but I had a lot of fun doing it.
