A 13 ,you can change the root A with Eb(5 th string 6th fret) and it becomes Eb 9 aug and if you fret the 1st string 6 th fret it is a kind of A 13 with a sharp fifth ,and so on. Anyway it's fun with thoose types of voicing to moove them in minor thirds up and down the fingerboard.
All the best.

Shark:

But it's very common to leave out one or more of the tones when playing dominant 9ths, 11ths or 13ths.

Exactly. In fact, you have to in some cases. When I play jazz chords on guitar most of the time I'm using 4 strings only. So, when playing an A13, obviously I'm leaving a few notes out.

The third is needed to determine major or minor; You need the dominant 7th, the 13th would be nice, but the other note is really up for grabs.

maximumpower

6 - 5th fret - A
5 - X
4 - 5th fret - G
3 - 6th fret - C#
2 - 7th fret - F#
1 - X

I am on the trial of ChordPulse but I don't know how to make it play the above notes :-)

Thanks

A 13 is the chord
On guitar notes are omitted cuz of the limited number of digits available.
That's the advantage the guitar has is that it's the left out notes and the guitar sound that gives it character sound. Because of this the guitar can take it's place Beside the piano as jazz chording instrument

If you want the full sound of the A 13 on guitar play an Eb7#9 (the Hendrix chord) then flatten your 4th finger to play the high B note. Bar your 1st finger at the 5th fret and let all 6 strings ring

Hi again,
The #9 chord ,the bluesy one but which fits with so many differents moods, from blues to gipsy to rock to flamenco and jazz and so on...
A kind of super power chord.
The one you learn after playing since 6 month and people say :"waow I love this tone " and you don't know why but you do love it too.... And I still do not know why,
All the best.
Olivier
Edit : if you you extend the A13 to anEb#9 it becomes actually Ab13 flat fifth so be aware of the context,it might work ..or not..Sorry sorry.

A 13 = A C# Eb G B F# = Eb G Db Gb = Eb7#9

Max - if you leave out the bass notes in the chords they can function as different types of chords (extentions)
Dominant/ Minor/ Major - interchangeable depending on the movement of the melody/changes
spell the chords out and you will see

It's all Am in the CH.

Unlike jazz, you get to make the same mistake over & over while expecting different results........(AKA insanity).

(AKA insanity) es CH Jazz  It's all Am in the CH cuz I've tryied different keys! None of them worked!!
