I've just installed SONAR on a new PC, and I'm having a bit of difficulty getting things set up as I want, and I can't find out how to sort it in the user manual.  It's been a while since I've needed to start afresh on a new computer!

Previously, when inserting a soft synth, it'd be done as a MIDI and a audio track, however currently when trying to insert one, it either comes up as a single MIDI track, or even two MIDI tracks.  What options do I need to select to set up a Soft Synth as an audio and midi track?  I prefer this, as from memory you can't put normal VSTs on MIDI tracks, plus I find freezing the synth tends to help with CPU load.

Also, on my previous computer, in the section I've circled below, would be a little box where it shows the VSTs that are added onto the track.

As you can see, this isn't here currently.  Any idea how I can enable this?

Thanks.

You need the Midi Source Track checked and then whatever outputs you want
I believe that the default is First Synth Audio Out, Unless you want multiple outputs per synth.

Question 1-  I actually thought it was an SIT (Simple instrument track).
It combines the synth, midi track all in one.
Question 2- See that little drop down above the red circle in your second photo that says "I/O" ?
Click that and change it to "All". that will show you all widgets in the track.

Sorry, another one.  This isn't a problem I had before.  But I've loaded up Cakewalk Sound Center as my first soft synth (as I like the sounds), however as you will see, none of the sounds have actually loaded:

I have the entire library of sounds, all of which are installed.  However, they're not coming up at all.  Any idea how to resolve this please?  If it makes a difference, my SONAR is installed via Steam.

Thanks again, and for all the help so far.

For most VSTi synths I select "Simple Instrument Track", this is a combined MIDI and audio track dedicated to the synth.  You'll have a piano roll as MIDI, but you can apply VST effects and manage the track like audio.  When you freeze the track it bounces to audio.

I select "MIDI Source" and "All Synth Audio Outputs:  Stereo" for multi output synths where I want the flexibility to manage multiple tracks such as Kontakt when I load multiple instruments and Battery where I want the various drum sounds on their own track (kick track, snare track, toms, cymbals, etc.).

Sorry that I have no experience with Sonar Sound Center.

The dialog you show " insert soft synth" is the way I open a VST. So I'm not sure what your asking?
I don't use Simple instrument tracks. Some like them, some don't ,, up to you.
The track you show is an audio track and will not have the output option for a VST, only midi tracks have this option.

I can't say I have seen that but I would check the VST directory scanning paths to make sure the libraries are found. Re-scan as needed.

I just brought up Cakewalk Sound Center - for the first time ever...all the patches seem to be present. I'm guessing the problem is that it's not able to find the files, either because they're not there or because they're in a non-default location. Mine are located in \program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\cakewalk sound center\modules\multisamples. Have a look there and see if they're present. I have two subdirectories there, named Rapture and Dimension Pro.
