Sometimes, 10 months later, you get a little something for yourself and your lovely lady that compensates for part of the suffering and discomfort...

Had a call yesterday that our financial compensation was in our lawyers' hands - a quick stop to our bank later we were on the way to the Apple store to buy a much needed replacement for my wife's old MacBook Pro. Most of the funds were only made available this morning, and I had planned on ordering from Sweetwater, but drinking my morning coffee and reading my e-mails, I received a 20% coupon at GC - surprisingly enough, Marshall was not among the dozens of excluded companies...

I have my rig now.

May not be a big Les Paul Custom and a plexi or a JCM, but it's MY rig, and more than enough. :)

Next step - buying the house!

(In the meantime - probably, getting dog number 2.) :P

Your purchase of choice NOT being in the list of excluded brands on a coupon? Virtually unheard of. Go back and check it again, there must be some mistake.

They were still pretty sloppy though - took forever to match the head and its cab, even though they were advertised as a bundle online. Actually, he had no idea they were selling them as a package and was going to sell them me the head and A cab, separately.

He also couldn't find the footswitch - I'll have to go back to pick one up (it's okay we often pass nearby and I don't need it in the studio for the time being).

Sweetwater are a little weird. I think the only thing I bought from them was Ohmicide which was on sale for $40. From that one purchase, they call me personally every few months to ask how I'm doing. It's kind of charming. I do like to flick through their catalogs.

They're very customer-service oriented. My sales-engineer writes back almost every time I enter a giveaway on their site and calls me whenever I order stuff, leaving messages about my order, when it's shipping etc.

I hate to speak on the phone, so I feel kind of bad for never answering, but I appreciate and write back to let them know every time.

GC is almost always a painful experience. Last time I went to buy a little amp, we had to wait for almost 20 minutes while they were trying to locate the one they had in storage. They never did and I ended up buying the demo. Same when I bought my Epiphone Les Paul Traditional - I had to go back to get the strap locks that were supposed to come with it, and since they throw away boxes, I didn't get the customary manual, striker and allen wrench...

That's not even mentioning how miserably poorly set up their instruments can be.

Actually, as with many things I bought from GC, that Marshall I just bought has an issue with a knob - while it actually functions A-1, the little marker bar indicates that it goes from 6 up to 4, clockwise, instead of 1 to 10.

But that's okay.

I haven't heard of that DSP amp. I guess that it has digital reverb? Does it still have tubes?

That is a nice rig Rain... and be sure, you would sound like you through any other Marshall playing any other LP! Nothing AT ALL wrong with this setup! I like it.

Congrats! Well wishes to the lovely Mrs. Rain... I assume she is healing fast!
