It's full of salt - no matter which orifice you dedicate to insertion, you always end up being sodiumized.

tom1 ... Sorry Mosh that's just dumb.
So, bacon is no more dangerous than dangerouis bad needles or dangerous bad hospitals? ...

When it's your time, it won't matter if it was beacan, bacon or bad needles or cancer!

tom1 ... So your dad hardly ever ate bacon and he still died? That prooves what? ...

That you didn't read the whole thing ... from the start and your post was wasted!

tom1 Pigs and cows are injected with hormones, medication, anti-biotics, steroids; More than likely are fed GMO grain. ...

And you aren't from day one?

WTF are you kidding? The very milk you drink is just as much affected as the rest of the cow!

tom1 ... No one knows right now if there is a correlation between eating processed foods and a premature death; but I think it's safe to say eating processed foods do not promote a healthy lifestle. ...

You can't know, since some of the effects in the antibiotics on raw meat alone, have a half-life of about 100 years or more ... and we don't live long enough to find out.

Promoting a "healthy lifestyle" is a media event and a joke. There are just as many folks, for example, that smoke in many places in the world, and they live to 100 ... and they eat whatever meats and animals they can get their hands on in Africa, Latin America, Asia ... anywhere.

What you're saying is that the food sold in America is worse than the food sold in the North Pole, or South Pole, or grown in the pacific islands. And you don't know that, and the testing would have to be proportional and relative to its numbers ... and in this case you are taking a number and blowing it out of proportion.

The day these articles do not come from a medical BS group, or a group making sure they can sell their product, is the day that you and I can feel good about eating something ... but in the end, this is just a marketing ploy ... to sell chicken or something else for a while, since they took a scare and serious hit in the stock market.

Tomorrow, something else takes a hit, and pork is cheap and everyone buys it and forgets that it is just as bad as anything else.

So, what's different?

Nothing!

My personal experience with food (and or food additive) cancer scares goes back to the 1960's when we were told that the artificial sweetener cyclamate was a cancer risk. We later found out that you had to be a lab rat that consumed 350 cans of diet soda daily, over a long period of time, to have a small increased incidence of rat bladder cancer.

And, despite many food/food additive scares since the 60's, the average life expectancy of all Americans has been gradually increasing to reach an all time high in 2012 : 78.8 years!

Also, in my line of work, I diagnose cancer on a daily basis, and I have yet to diagnose a CA attributable to bacon consumption. On the other hand , tobacco caused cancers (bacon has been put into the tobacco risk category of carcinogen by WHO)  come across my desk everyday.

I am certain that this processed meat thing is agenda driven- maybe WHO has been taken over vegans.

For what its worth, I consume bacon whenever I desire it.

Cheers,

Bert

not true anymore.

(CNN)Middle-aged white Americans are dying at a record rate, new findings suggest.
....death rates among white Americans ages 45 to 54 are rising even as those among every other age, racial and ethnic group in the United States are in decline.

I'm not really interested in debating this, but those are statistics of increased death rates among middle-aged whites occurring between 1999 and 2013, with increased death rates attributable to liver disease (Hep C) , drugs etc. So the increased longevity present in 2012 (my quote) is despite those increased death rates among middle-aged caucasians that had been going on for some 13 years at that point.

I don't think anyone here claims that a change in diet will make them immortal or immune to cancer. Doesn't mean that it can't be a good thing, as part of a bigger picture.

From a very pragmatic point of view...

Meal A: Skinless chicken breast with couscous and some greens - I'm full of energy and ready to run the marathon 30 minutes later, and my energy level is even until the next meal.

Meal B: A cheeseburger and fries - I am much more likely to fall into couch potato mode. My body has to put in a lot more effort to process that meal and extract the low percentage that's actually usable.

And, incidentally, in that mode, I'm much more likely ingest even more junk while I'm procrastinating in front of the screen.

The immediate benefit of sticking to lean and clean is so obvious to me that I don't care much about studies about cancer and longevity. My body tells me what's best for it. Feeling good and energetic and, as a result, being active, seems like the best option in the long run too. It also has a great positive impact on my moods.

I can't really think of a downside.
