  • Sonar Platinum crashes on opening any project, even when creating a new one

Lately Sonar platinum took up on crashing when trying to open any old project and even trying to create a new one, so at the moment I'm completely Sonarless.

I can open an old project with shift in safe more (or whatever)... after a gazillion yeses for each plugin load query, everything gets loaded OK and things seem to work. Not if I clock yes to all.
I tried go go back to previous version, no change.
Since I've installed a few VSTs since Sonar last worked for sure, I too out all VST folders from the settings page. Still crashes.
Removed all audio devices (well the only one that was active), Sonar whines about no active audio device and then crashes.
I uninstalled and reinstalled. No change.

I'm running out of my own ideas. Got a bunch of minidumps but I suppose without symbols they're no use for my own study. I did send one report with a dump (at least the dialog seems to imply the dump was sent) in the beginning with a brief description and check keep me posted but no news back so I'm hesitant to try that route.

I think I need some escalation here.

Win8.1 for now (Win10 is under work on another boot drive but I've had to time to finish that for several months now...)

What kind of soundcard are you using and have you made sure you are up to date on windows update and video driver updates ?

Holy cow, sounds like your making a bit of a mess with a few things you said you did trying to fix it!

At this point you might need to start fresh to sort things out.
Make sure your Hard drive is still OK, that can also cause crashes.
Sonar crashing on load up can be cause by 3rd party VST that it doesn't like.

The only way to sort this out I can see is un install Sonar using CCC and start over.
I would also remove any 3rd party VST's too.
Then see what happens.

If one goes to that trouble a clean install might be a better idea.

Thanks for the replies folks!

- scook: Support case created. It would be interesting to see if the dumps reveal any culprit before I go to the pretty big trouble of reinstalling everything but anyway the clöean install link was a goo one too.

- Chuck: using an M-Audio Fast Track Pro, an old one but works OK. Have not checked lately but there have not been any driver updated since.. well a long time ago.

Been a few complaints on the Fast Track Pro drivers for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.
You might even be able to use the FTP with windows 10 using WASAPI instead of ASIO.
