  • New project without naming it first

I seem to recall that prior to the latest update, if you created a new project through the start menu, you did not have to come up with a name for it.  Now, it brings up the new file dialog which asks for a project name.

I would prefer to be able to create a project without having to name it first.  I like to compose in Sonar and I don't necessarily know what direction I am even going to take with a track.  How would I come up with a good name for a project if I don't know what it sounds like yet?

I always start new project from File menu and i choose a New and from there i pick up a  -Blank project-. No naming problems.

Try CTRL+N. That worked a couple of years ago. Might still.

Ctrl+n works. Click the Sonar Icon, hit Ctrl+N and it's done.

Just click OK without giving it a name.

Yep, this was a change to the Start Screen in 2017.08 - they combined the New Project and New Project From Template icons.

In .07 I could click on the upper left icon (New Project) even before the graphics completed and had an open Basic Project.  Now it take a couple of extra clicks but the offered workarounds above do work i.e. just click OK without giving it a name or Ctl+N.

It is interesting that Ctl+N doesn't prompt for a name and opens the Basic template while File | New from the menu and Basic option from SC does?

Just launching Sonar should give you a new, unnamed project. Close the start screen and there it is! I have this setup with my usual template and settings so when I get a sudden moment of inspiration, I just launch Sonar and I am ready to roll before the inspiration or idea gets lost. If something good starts taking shape, I then save it.

This is not the default SONAR behavior. "On Startup Load Default Template" must be enabled in Preferences > File > Advanced for this feature.

Yes. I forgot to mention that. I recommend the OP does this if he often wants to start an un-named project. It's the quickest route from brain to digital.
