This poor lady died from taking excessive prescription drugs while washing it down with 8 liters of Pepsi per day. That's a lot of Pepsi!!
I don't think I even drink that much water in a week....

Hi,

I do only about 12/16 oz's per day of Coke. The other coke is too expensive for my salary!

I've not had a soda since June.

at the first of 2015, however, I was drinking about 6-12oz cans per day and that's a LOT.

Q:  What's the diff between MJ & Richard Pryor?

A:  One was burned by Pepsi, the other by Coke

Yeah that is a lot for a daily basis.....especially if you're drinking the one's with 'high fructose". I might drink just one a week or every 2 weeks (if I happen to eat pizza or some other greasy food), but it usually is the Coke with sugarcane in it (I think made in Mexico).

Good to hear you've given it up Beags. How's the recovery from surgery been so far?

My favorite snack used to be tortilla chips with cheese melted to brownness, with an iced down Dr Pepper on the side.

I haven't had that, or any other sweet drink for years

That is a lot of Pepsi, but not a huge amount of caffeine. In the UK the caffeine content of Pepsi Max is substantially lower than the US 42.6 mg/12/oz. So in a day she would be ingesting about 950 mg. and that would have been over a long period of time, That is close to the level that would produce symptoms of caffeinism in a non-habituated user. If she were doing that every day she would likely have been pretty tolerant, and the amount delivered at one dose would be limited. The lethal dose (LD50) of caffeine is 150-200 mg/kg, so unless she only weighed 5 kg (11 pounds) and drank it all at once her chances of dying from caffeine would be a lot less than 50-50. Her chances of dying of water intoxication or a ruptured stomach might be better.  Fluoxetine has a lethal dose estimated at >1200 mg which would be in the range of 60+ 20 mg capsules...not something that you would reach by accident. A potentiating cross reaction of caffeine and flouxetine is not likely to explain why the combination would have killed her, unless she took a deliberate massive overdose of Prozac. The article notes that she also did alcohol in large amounts, and there may have been problems with her liver which prevented detoxification. Fluoxetine overdose is associated with seizures and obtundation, so it is possible that aspiration asphyxiation was involved, but the specific findings are not reported in the article.

Actually, they were diet Mtn. Dews, so they were full of Aspartame and caffeine.

'recovery" went relatively without a hitch.  learning to eat with a very small opening between my esophogus and stomach has been pretty difficult, I am still learning (and I still fail!  failure means PAIN and throwing up!  sometimes even projectile! :D )

weight loss is slow now, but in total before and after surgery I've lost 62 pounds!  still have a way to go to reach my goal, but I'm already feeling a lot better and already able to reduce my blood pressure meds, possibly later quit them!
