I just read through this whole post - the one thing that comes through loud and clear is that IK's marketing strategy / policies are not clear and obvious to everyone (myself included) - you could almost say they seem deliberately muddled perhaps
Quite frankly this puts me off getting back into the IK products. I'll use what I have until such time as they wont work anymore, then they can gracefully slip into the draw full of software that no longer works! I should have got my monies worth by then and then we can part without any hard feelings!
If they should ever decide to de-muddle their marketing, I would probably get back on the bike straight away - for the time being too busy making some music!!

Although their marketing strategies are unclear and a turn off, I have to say their T-Racks plugins are fantastic (especially the newer ones that came out last year EQ 73, 81, Precision Com/limiter, Master 432 etc...).

I've used them on almost every audio track (since that group buy) and found them to just uplift the sonic character of each track......even using both EQ's (73 & 81) on the same track has produced very pleasing results.

So Nigel, before you drop using IK's stuff, just take a look at these plugins as they're totally worth jumping through the few hoops to get them.

One thing I would suggest to anyone contemplating this purchase is to update ALL their Custom Shop apps...I have TRacks, Amp3 and Sampletank3 and I wish I had updated BEFORE I purchased my gear credits as it seems I get 10 more with each update.  That means I could've just purchased the 50 gear credit pack and ended up only $30 bucks out of pocket for the Amp4 upgrade.  No biggie but something to keep in mind if you have not yet taken any action on this.

"I bought the A4 presale through the Customshop."
How'd you do that! It wasn't an option in my Custom Shop...
Like many others actually "buying" something from IK is a MESS!
How do I use "jam points" in the Custom Shop or "Gear Credits" in the web store?
I have a "ton" of IK stuff, but its ALWAYS a GD puzzle...
Where's OBI when you need em, eh?

When you purchase something in the IK Store you're given an option to apply up to 30% of the price using your jam points.  You can purchase Gear Credit packs in the Store this way and save.

Your best bet, if you have some jam points, is to purchase the amount of Gear Credits you need in the IK Store and apply your jam points to the full %30 of the price (if you have that many).  Then make your upgrade purchase in the Custom Shop using your gear credits.  Also remember, as I stated above, that you'll get 10 extra Gear Credits for updating each of your Custom Shop modules...i.e.TRacks, Amp, and Sampletank.  At least I did.
Needlessly convoluted...but it does work.

Quite so. I would even argue that they sport some kind of dynamic marketing strategy. This is a highly interactive market, with active GearSlutz and KVR forum participation following every single move they make. So maybe at each new launch they wait to see what is acceptable and what isn't. You can view this as a fiendish Dr. Fu Manchu plot, but I believe it's even to our advantage. This specific kind of dynamic marketing allows for adaptive behavior if certain complaints are voiced. Their history has shown that they do adapt and change policy when complaints are reiterated. Remember the changes to their SampleTank and JamPoints policy. So I guess the way to handle this from a consumer POV is to make ourselves heard. Over and over again. So here's me, voicing my wish for a free AmpliTube 4 to run my AmpliTube 3 stuff

Wasn't here a difference between buying in the Custom Shop and buying from the IK website regarding transfer possibilities?

I wouldn't be surprised. You need a freaking manual to buy anything from IK, but they make good stuff at reasonable prices.

Clint, you said it all right there. They should just print their own money with a picture of a clown on it. Get rid of the other stuff and just use "Bozo Bucks".

....or even "BOGO Bucks"

Correction to my earlier post:

Looks like you don't get extra credits when updating SampleTank.  At least I didn't.

Indeed, I think you only get it once. I got it when I updated the Custom Shop in T-RackS, but not when I did the same with SampleTank and AmpliTube.

Everything you've acquired is fully functional in A4...

Except for all the built-in gear in A3.

If you already have AT3, all of that gear will function in AmpliTube 4.  From http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/amplitube4/index.php?pp=at4cs-gear -
As a standalone software and DAW plug-in, AmpliTube 4 comes with the gear listed. If you currently own a previous version of AmpliTube, you can use the Custom Shop feature to restore all of your gear from Custom Shop purchases and legacy gear.
