I think it's fascinating that we live in a so-called individualistic society, yet a lot of people seem to be more than anxious to relinquish their individuality and their freedom of opinion to follow fads and express themselves through ready-made formulas and one liners.

So I guess that leaves only self-interest as a manifestation of "individualism" - as in leaving carts in the middle of the parking and other such bad manners.

I've always considered myself an individualist but I can't say that I feel a strong connexion w/ those people. Actually, it's a little paradox in itself - the herd seems to consist of people mostly unfit for life in society.

This is better.

It's appeal is more, to me anyway, about how the characters change and adapt to the changing world around them that is totally out of phase with how things used to be.

Glad to hear you're a progressive thinker Herb.

Gosh, Rain ... we can start with the posts in the CH ... perfect description and illustration and if someone has opinions that are longer than one liners, they are automatically disqualified like Melville, or Dostoyevsky, or Shelley! Too long and boring! And ... of course ... most of them do not read it anyway! Just shows the musical discipline doesn't it? It's about the whole piece, not just 16 bars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I won't speak for *everybody* that visits the CH, but for ME ...

... the CH is a place to escape the serious thought I'm engaged in during the other 99.9973% of my life.  I don't come to the CH to wax philosophical or to convince anybody here that I possess high levels of intellectual prowess.

I do provide a serious thought or reply here and there, but I do so begrudgingly as that seriousness is what I'm here to avoid.

Maybe a bit of introspection will reveal to you the reason you come here and expose yourself to all of the low-brow banter that takes place.

I got really bored with Dexter after one season.
The (sorry) LOTD books are much better than the movies but the movies were well done, me thinks.
I do like The Walking Dead. To me the zombies are just something on the side. The real story is the human interaction in the world with new or no rules. The characters are good IMO.
I have never seen Breaking Bad. I would watch it but not for the price Comcast wants and I'm not interested enough to buy it.
I liked the first couple of seasons of Ray Donovan but I'm not sure anymore.
I like Homeland but it may be getting old too. Quinn's little statement (maybe episode 1, current season) re: "our" strategy and the "terrorists" strategy was spot on, totally not PC but spot on.
I like Scorpion because it is light fare, it is like real people doing a Scooby Doo show without monsters. Sort of a team of  "MacGyvers".
So far I like Blindspot, I like a mystery.
I like Blacklist because Spader is so perfect in the role.

I still lke to read more than watch TV or movies. TV is a more social thing around the house, something me and cbow can do together. I go to bed early and read... I love to read.

I hate lies.
I hate texting language... my 70something mother-in-law has started using it, thankfully she hasn't gotten a tattoo. That brings up something else:
I HATE new tattoos on people over 50. I was at the store down the road about a month ago and there was a woman well over 60 with really ugly legs, varicose veins, fat... with a new tattoo on the outside of the calf of each leg. I don't understand that. I truly don't get it. Never mind.
I hate botox lips.
I don't understand why older people (senior citizens) try to look young, what is the purpose of that? I don't get it. I certainly would like to feel younger but I have no interest in looking younger. My desire is to age gracefully, I may have no hope of that though, lol.

For the record: Rain... all your bacon belong to us!

You are all my favorite people, here. I am glad I am allowed to hang around. I cannot think of anyone here that I don't like. There were a couple but they are gone now. I can deal with pretty much anything except condescension. I have little tolerance for that. We are all just people and we're both the same and different at once... most are better than me, I know that and am glad I do. The CH is an oasis for my life. Thanks for that!
