I think Phil's had enough bashing for now. Saw a very candid interview with him recently where he admitted that he'd overdone things and had way too much exposure in the '80's, especially the 'cheeky chappie' routine on stage. He said he could understand now why he would get on some people's nerves.

Sad about his health problems too, he looks a shadow of his former self these days.

Anyone heard his son Simon's stuff? Spooky...

As much as I like PG and his solo material, in the end, it is all just songs, and there is no continuity or concept, and for me, that is not as enjoyable. Let's write a song about ... and to me, music has always been more than just that.

Actually (if that's what's important) there's a theme that runs through all his solo albums, at least until 'Us'. 'Concepts' are not defined by the length of the track.

Wow, voice and looks, you could easily confuse Simon as a young Phil!  Definitely his son.

A great singer and performer. It's been more than 20 years since he was on the scene in any memorable way, but if you think there isn't an audience for his talent you are mistaken. He can put together a great band as he did before and sell out just about anywhere in the world. If the voice is still there, I'd love to see and hear him. His stuff wasn't really my thing in the 80's, but "In the Air" was about as big a hit as you can have, and that record is stuffed full of pretty good pop songs.

I think over exposure and a few poor professional and personal choices caused him problems, but nothing he can't over come.

Sorry to disagree, but In the Air is one of the most horrible vocal styles i've ever heard. His voice just grates. And he keeps bringing it out.

No Son of Mine and some of its predessessors is molto better, but there's always that vocal style you either like or don't ! I don't.

Only my opinion,

Jerry

Jerry, I understand you don't like his voice on the song, but take another look at my post. I said it the song was "as big a hit" as you can have. I also stated that his stuff wasn't my thing.

The similarity to his dad's voice is even more apparent in this video. I wouldn't be surprised if his vocals end up with the same EQ settings as Phil's, lol.....

I don't understand the animosity, I guess he was just to prominent for a while, even my father who would have been hard pressed to recognise more than a handful of stars of that era would proclaim "I hate Phil Collins".

Wind and Wuthering was the last Genesis album I bought, once Steve Hackett left I lost interest but still enjoyed them on the radio occasionally.
