Got rid of my TV over 10 years ago because it annoyed the crap out of me, being about 50% programming and 50% annoying promotional fluff. Also I don't like that TVs encourage you to lie in unhealthy positions on the sofa all night flicking from one channel of inane drivel to another.
So I went a few years without watching any TV and buying the odd DVD that I'd watch on my computer. Then along came Netflix and I subscribed to that, for the sake of watching maybe one good show a night. Later I ditched it for Amazon Prime video because I realized that since I was already an Amazon Prime subscriber I was nuts to pay for two services. There's probably a few less shows on Amazon Prime but it works out cheaper for me plus I get all the delivery advantages of Amazon Prime.
I like watching shows at my computer desk, sat bolt upright in a computer chair. Luckily I have a girlfriend who prefers to watch shows this way too. I don't think I could ever sit through another TV commercial or trailer, they make me want to scream.
