I always forget how much I enjoy giving out candy at Halloween. All the little kids in their costumes, with smiles and wonder. It is a special joy, it makes them so happy and that makes me happy. I went to the store this afternoon and got a little over 60 bucks worth of candy. Mini Hershey bars, Hershey kisses, mini Reese cups, Rolos, Peppermint patties, a bunch of Double Bubble gum.. for the grandkids, mini Twix, mini Milky Way, mini Musketeers, mini snickers. (The wife confiscated the bag of mini Payday bars and put them in the pantry, lol).
It is so worth it to hear little kids say, "wow, you have Hershey bars"... and "I haven't seen York Peppermints in a long time", money well spent!

I can't understand the people who say Halloween is evil. These kids aren't evil, they are full of wonder and joy!
I almost didn't do it this year because I'm lazy and I certainly thought when I got home.. "man, I bought too much candy" but there isn't much left!

Happy happy!! There is nothing quite like a happy child to make life better. Life's simple joys are the best ones.

Happy Halloween.

Some people apparently live in a very "evil" world, full of "evil" things and signs and all.

They say life is what you make it, and I believe that it's at least partially true.

I say let's be good, celebrate goodness, make people happy. That's the spirit, and if the spirit is the essence, well, Halloween is good if you make it good.

But then, I love halloween. (You would have guessed that, I'm sure.)

Happy Halloween Julien and all you guys.

Absolutely! There is evil in the world but this isn't it.

Oh yeah, it's fun!  Especially when you yell "TRICK!" and grab one or two.  We've got a couple in the oven right now...

Yep, just kidding of course.  We're over doing on sampling the treats like you'd expect.

I agree. Actually, having to keep the cats indoor (especially the black ones) because of some idiots is a testimony to that.

Boring history lesson  - Halloween goes back to an ancient Celtic festival, celebrating the end of the harvest season and preparing for Winter. They believed that on Oct 31st the realms of the living and the dead overlapped, and the dressing up and wearing of masks was to appease the spirits.

'Trick or treating' probably has it's origin in 'souling', a medieval pre-Christmas tradition where the poor would knock on doors and offer prayers for the dead in return for food.

How do the treats sound sampled?

I see you've never been anywhere near Detroit on Halloween.

Oh, I forgot about Detroit. Is it the night before or Halloween. Devil's Night, IIRC? What is wrong with people?
I hope you and yours are OK. I see you're in Indiana, it seems like a pretty good place.

150 or so years ago the local people would have handled this and it would be over but I guess now the local people are the ones setting fires (obviously not everyone). I guess they do it because they can. I won't pretend to understand this sort of thing. Maybe they need Uncle Ted to move back up there.

I wish The Lions were more "on fire".
I'm watching The Lions right now, they are my "backup" favorite team, after The Falcons. The Lions should be doing better.
