-------------------------------------------------------------------
Closer is the last wave and far away from here
Halloween costumed and dead tsunamical
A twilight of your idols; a midnight of your sun
Insufferable as the company of one
Seriously are you kidding me?
Starring in your own no one show
Instagrammed like a jellyfish hash-tagged with #noSpine
Colder than a dark star and frozen into space
All your motivation an accoutrement at best
Bedizen me with Snooki like lobster in a sauce
Alive when you kill it off the planet earth
At minute number seventeen
I stopped my own cold heart
I closed my eyes and walked out of the summertime
Over, like these movie credits shot out into space
All the extras' names are written on your face
All the characters you always got to play
(They perished deus ex machina: in a botox hurricane)
I was born to die just to save the human race
I was born to die just so you could eat my face
I was born to die just to save the human race
I was born to die just so you could eat my face

>> Sept: 10 update: we had entered song in songwriting contest to get on songwriterUK forum bandcamp "Summertime" album ;p
kinda funny when u read lyrics as 'barely' qualifying for judging - anyways we made it onto the bandcamp album .. it's last track #17
ironic as number is mentioned in song :) so there is public download and/or listen to album here: http://summertunes.bandcamp.com

they are WAV files uploaded so I'm assuming you can get a lossless download etc...  cheers!! - DT and co.

Hey, Daren,

Killer job on this monster modern rocker, bro!

I love the deep, thick wall of guitars, and the AIC style layered vocals and harmonies are really cool.  The mix sounds warm and full.

Nice work, buddy, have a good one!
Bob

Can't hear the lyrics.

Daren, as usual your incredibly creative mind has blown me away.  I have to agree with DarinBad, turn up the vocals.  All else is to die for.

Daren,

Everything you have posted to date has thoroughly impressed me.  Excellent work on this song.  I agree that I would turn up the vocals just a touch.

As you had said in the thread on lyrics, "the best lyrics don't say anything definitive-they just temporarily liberate us from the limited ways in which we think and feel."  Well, you nailed it then with these.  I could study these lyrics for days.

Daren, I love the energy in the song. The mix is good from this end. The vocals are laying low. IMO though if they were up front it might not be significant. Not many are doing this kind of music this well.

The lyrics themselves kind of throw me off. I'm not very good at gathering meanings from poetry so chalk that up to me. Unfortunately I know someone who does bath salts and it isn't good so my mental associations with the title are in line with that. I understand and believe the next to  last line of the song. Probably the only thing I "got".

wow thanks x infinity for kind words about our silly music - means a lot!! :)  humbly grateful.

i hear you all loud and clear on vox levels -- i guess it's just a stylistic quirk of mine - the verses are indeed pulled back a bit on purpose
to let George's drums, which I love, take some prominence - Gtars too-   also the pre chorus and choruses are way louder than verses IMO and the outro they are super boosted - I wanted to leave enough headroom for outro esp after normalization -
maybe also b/c the song is in D but I'm kinda singing a Cmajor based mode ( forget-the-name-olydian ) which is lower still and i'm basically a baritone so perhaps at lower listening levels the frequencies blend more - but when cranked on a good system they are very there unless I'm like just going Beethoven deaf or something lol ;p

as to the lyrics well this isn't really the place to discuss them and as Mike pointed out in that cool coffeehouse thread i think it's important that lyrics dont say anything definitive as what I was trying to say literally ...
i mean I could go on forever about the satire, cultural irony/memes Snooki lol, zeitgeists, religion, instagram, hashtags, twitter, Facebook, zombie apocalypse, bathsalts, idoltry, christianity, the vatican, ego, vanity, botox, the painful media, fame and faux fame, schizophrenia, metaphysics, spirituality, the gospel of st thomas, A Course In Miracles, 'The Disappearance Of The Universe' by Gary Renard   ... but I won't ;p
it is, at the very same time, a bunch of nonsense that is just fun to sing and harmonize to and nothing more... just based on a story about a stillborn who died when he was 17 minutes old - someone who only lived for 17 minutes...

HEy so I just found out we made it to this BANDCAMP 'Summertime Song' contest/album- free download with option to donate to a cause -- it's #17 on the album- ironic huh?? You can get the full WAV file there :) along with the other songs, some of which are pretty cool.  I love the "Psychedelic JErusalem" song - great BEatles/London sound!!

All and all, vocals need to be understood, even if they don't say anything infinitive or definitive, the listener still likes to know what your singing. Not everyone has the words in front of them to read, as we do. Nice execution other than that and some good guitar playing.

Peace and Blessings, John

Hey, Daren, I thought I commented on this a couple weeks ago before we went on baby watch.  It's really well done as usual.  I always tell you the vocals could come up a bit but I know they are where you want them.  I agree with Herb that without that words I wouldn't have a clue what you are saying.  I didn't read them all so I don't know exactly what you said.  I was impressed with the sound of the music.

hey thanks John :) I totally hear you on vox levels- i'm wondering though in this case as it's a social satire fun song but i can see how fundamentally devoted may take offense ( it got pulled off a few fb pages already ) but whatever it's only art and means nothing/bunch of nonsense but still maybe best to duck the vox a bit to obscure the words this way it can be enjoyed ( or hated lol ) on a purely musical level ... maybe i dunno just thinking outloud here.

hey thanks bro yea that was one of the later mixes we were working with i kinda twerked it more since & worked on kick drum as I wanted large drum sound but w/ all the tracks i had to distribute the sonic load evenly. i hear you on vox as John above :) it's all good and stylistic thing I guess .... also in the outro the vox come up over 5db so i wanted to leave headroom etc... kewl i appreciate the listen and input :) much gratitude - DT
