I'm in the market for a new delay/echo VST and would like to hear your recommendations.

What I already have:
Bootsie NastyDLA - This is my workhorse delay. Unfortunately it's 32 bit but it's good in most other regards.
BT Oilcan Echo - no tempo sync, no useful documentation.
BT Tempo Delay - has tempo sync but not much in the way of character or other settings.
NI Replika - has saturation and does okay on guitars, but is a bit sparse in terms of other settings.

What I'd like to see is some or all of this:
  • 64 bit architecture
  • Stereo capability with cross-feedback, ping-pong, etc
  • Complex timing possibilities (eg. multi-tap, random delay times, etc)
  • Tonal 'character' (eg. saturation, phaser, chorus, whatever)
  • High pass/low pass on the wet signal
  • Tempo sync
Soundtoys Echoboy looks like a good contender, although it is fairly pricey. What else would people recommend, if anything?

If you REALLY want to get into the Delay then Fabfilter Timeless is quite nice...
Also SoundToys EchoBoy...
IK's Echoplex is quite nice for Echo also...
UVI just release Relayer also...a delay with much more...

There's a lot of delays to choose from

Here's a big list of FREE ones...

Valhallaubermod can also do some crazy stuff.

+1 for timeless, and audio damage have some good stuff, their fsu plugs always have a delay module and plenty of "character".... finding a new delay will be a fun investigation for you i think :-)

With it being on sale I would too. It's hard to think of something Melda doesn't include in a plugin.

I use Timeless, Sonitus and the pro channel VKFX delay. They all work very well and each requires different amounts of work and have different levels of options. Timeless by FF is the best of the bunch but Sonitus is free and the VKFX PC module is cheap and easy (two of my more important criteria).

Cakewalk gave away coupons for a free VKFX Delay to owners of X3 in Nov 2013.
