Bat, it is there, man.  It is just that the funk and drive of the song is sooo good you'd have to make very obvious.  I'd start w/ vocal stuff.  The song has some space left but I don't know how uberdelays on the instruments would work.  Repeating the vocal lines w/ different spacy effects sounds like a good place to start.  I know Paul Leary (of the Butthole's fame) took a pretty generic rock song that my wife's band did and during mixing he add'ed a reverb whoosh to her vox toward the end that made a real kicker.  But that was a much plainer song.

On PJ Harvey's "this is love" I posted a while back I had another singer come in to do backing vox.  UUhs and whatnot.  She ended up layering about 6 tracks doing different things.  The real kicker was her doing Uh Uh Uh kinda backbeat against the plain chorus.  It was funny - she was bouncing in time while recording but it worked and she didn't get the feet through the mic syndrome.  I slapped a breverb preset on it - a slow backwards build up that worked perfectly.  Suddenly a fairly driving guitar oriented song exploded at the end w/ that separate vocal line(s) while everything else continued to rock away.  I had to cut down the guitars vol wise to make room, but done right it is nice fit.  The hardest thing was not losing the main vocal.

Just some ideas.  I think the main thing is to build up to the psychodelia, rather start out there.  Nothing wrong w/ it, but the song is great already.  Don't lose that.  some of those siren sounds in "Interstate" might work, too.  But again it has to be done tastefully so it blends in with what you got already.

Have fun!

Yea dude, your stuff is always good.
Always look forward to hearing new material.
You definitely nailed the "spacey, groovey"aspect. Maybe even a new genre, ha!
I hear A LOT of influences swirling around in this tune.
Great playing and production as usual!

We were at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon having coffee in a shop.  A song came on and I told my wife, "That's Rob from Batsbrew".  Well it was Jane's Addiction.  This song was VERY nicely done.  I hear a bit of The Shaman Song in it.  I'll never give up on getting that tune.  LOL  Rob, I can't critique anything you ever do.  It's so right there that I can't imagine the thing that would make it better.  Different, maybe, but not better.  You are truly a gifted guy!

thanks man, i appreciate your comments
that guitar sound, is basically a ibanez artist into a mesa boogie, cranked fairly loud but not club level, with a drive pedal and a noise gate, thru a mic pre, that had a very aggressive compression setting on an outboard compressor, that makes the recorded tone very flat and smooth, and easy to mix.
also, i dropped my pick, so that last solo is with my bare fingers, a lot of fingernail edge, it gives it a unique bite that i can't really get out of a pick.
necessity is the mother of invention.
LOL

glad you dig this one.....
it's spacy, yea, but still has that edge of aggression and movement...
sometimes i dig listening to navel gaze stuff, but i rarely tap into that kind of thing on my own compositions...
just never comes out that way.

Revolution in Electric Ladyland at its best.  If you'd have been born 30 years earlier you'd be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame by now.  You're in my hall of fame.

This takes me back to the psychedelic sixties.
Sounds like you've got a proper band there
