This song was inspired by an Interview that was read with Tom Petty about George Harrison and him, in Rolling Stone. Tom ended up not using a a line "I'm standing On The Edge Of the World" due to advise from George Harrison.

This is a part of the interview:

"I Won't Back Down," on "Full Moon Fever," is more like a mantra than a song. That put me off when I wrote it. It's so bare, without any ambiguity. There was nothing there but truth. There was another issue going on, though. Someone had tried to kill me, with the arson at my house. [In 1987, someone set fire to Petty's home in Encino, California.] I took that personally. Surviving something like that makes you feel alive.
That was my mind-set: I will survive, I will move on. It blurted out of my mouth. I changed one thing. There was a line I was singing, "I'm standing on the edge of the world." When we cut the record, George Harrison was there. He played and sang on that track. And he goes, "Tom, what the **** is it with 'standing on the edge of the world'?" I was like, "Oh, busted."By a Beatle, too. I went, "Yeah, you're right. That doesn't mean anything." I thought for a minute and went, "How about, 'There ain't no easy way out?'" George went, "Much better."

I tend to like the tunes you do and I think this has potential.

I hear dissonance in the tune between the synth bass and the piano in a few places. Like they are in 2 different scales.
It is also pretty heavy on the reverb.
I like the change at 2:36 nice piano and strings......

Hi Terry,

I like the melody.  I agree with a comment above that there is discord in the instrumental breaks.  Two scales going there at once which needs fixing IMO.  I like the bridge.  Are you checking your lead vocal for pitch?  There are some places it could use a tweek or two.  I like your creativity.

It seems like you are switching from major to minor when you come out of the singing.

On the instrumental break.... which occurs 3x.... divide it into 2 licks and the first one is just fine. In a minor mode. The issue I have is with the second part. In particular, the second and third note. They kinda fit but they kinda don't either.

The verb in this section is also still heavy, like the piano player has pressed the damper pedal and kept it down the entire time.

Vox sound too compressed to me.

Actually the whole song sounds like it was recorded in dolby and the dollby was turned off for the mixdown.

Muddy and pumping are the words that comes to mind.
