Where Does A Cowboy Go?

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12487034

I wrote this some time back and never got around to finishing it. So I threw a vocal on it and here it is.

Back in the early days when I gigged for a living, we tended to play lots of honky-tonk hole in the wall places that seemed to attract cowboys and cowgirls. Some were the sidewalk urban cowboys but more then enough knew how to rodeo with the best. I got to know some of them fairly well over the years. The best people you could want to know..... so in a way, this is for them and their indomitable spirits.

I hope you enjoy it too..... it's traditional, old style country.

I've met a few cowboys too... one of them even took a shot at me... but that's another story...
I don't know where they go, but I could tell you where I told him he could go...

I love the song... could be a hit... I would suggest bumping up the vox, and replacing the Ride & Snare with HH & Sidestick during the verses...

Frank.... thanks for popping in for a listen. The vocals boost was an easy fix..... I was thinking they were too low myself, but it was one of those cases of  I've been listing to this for a few hours..... and second guessing myself on levels..... anyway, I cranked it 2db or so.....

The cowboys I knew where all US Marines on top of the cowboy thing.... hard partying folks... nice to have them as friends in some of the joints we played.... if you catch my drift there. Body guards....

Love the old school take of this song.  And yea, the lyrics have hit written on them.  Just the right tone to appeal to the cowboy in us all.  And love the fiddle - very sweet.  My suggestions would be switching the beat on the drums a little bit - it feels to a little mechanical although it gets more interesting later in the song.  The only other thing is sometimes the vox is a little too loud - just on a few words and phrases and in the lower registers.  Again, that is a tiny thing, nothing major here, move along.

This is for sure a cowboy song and a good one at that. I have only written one in my life and will have to scroll through some of my old discs and see if I can find it and post it. It's called Fast Train To Texas. It was fun doing it, as you must of had fun doing this one. Very nicely done.

Peace and Blessings, John

Sorry, tried to listen but encountered an error? And it didn't seem worth it to try again for some reason? When errors happen, they're usually permanent errors (based on my experience?) so if you could email me your songs? I may be able to listen in the future (assuming there are no errors associated with the mp3s?) :-)

BUT! If there are errors? I cannot (in good conscience) guarantee that I will try again. I know this may seem lame? But I wrote a song once a long time ago? "It is what it is..." (classic song BTW) I know I should try again (in my heart of hearts?) But somehow, it's just difficult to get around to it? What with the sock drawer? Vacuuming? Feeding the fish? I'm sure you understand.

Nice one Herb. Great story and images.
Love the simplicity of the beat and the changes.

The Maillard Reaction
Great song.

How about less reverb on the drums for a more intimate small room feel. Maybe back off the cymbals a bit too. I have the impression I should be hearing more skin and less effect.

The violin might could use some "air" or squeaks or something.

Vocal sounds really great.

Thanks for sharing.

best regards,
mike
