You are right though, they always wanted to be a success as a songwriting outfit in their own right. In fact I think they split with ChinniChap and released the self-penned Love Is Like Oxygen which IIRC did okay-ish, but I don't think they had much commercial singles success after that.

I'm deep in the Hindu Kush, and these rare Peshwari Voles need to get to the other side of this valley before sundown. I only have this golf club. I'll put Kevlar jackets on them of course, I'm not a complete monster.
 
 
(well the other thing didn't work, so there's a bit of vintage Bill Bailey instead)

But I miss the bit about the Rubetts B side. IFRC Middle of the Road had a three minute nose flute solo on the B side of "Chirpy Chirpy Cheap Cheap", but then again that may just have been her voice.
