Among hits Wells sang lead on:
    "Eli's Coming" (No. 10, 1969)
"Mama Told Me Not to Come" (No. 1, 1970)
    "Shambala" (No. 3, 1973)

    others:
    "Try a Little Tenderness"
    "Never Been to Spain"
    "Let Me Serenade You"
    "Sure As I'm Sittin' Here"
    "Play Something Sweet (Brickyard Blues)"

this guy had a lot to do with my own personal vocal style,
nobody would ever pick up on that...
but i listened to this guy sing a lot.

That band was a big part of my early musical influences. Not to mention it was one of the few that mom and dad didn't object to.

I recall seeing them on one of the late night talk shows. I think it was Joey Bishop's show. Anyway, they sang Eli's Coming live on the show and really nailed it.

    Fond memory!

I looked all over YouTube for the TV version and couldn't find it. {sob} So? Enjoy the original music video.
