Hi Kenny, nice use of octaves but maybe not to start with, imho.  I like what you're playing from 0;49 onwards especially the end.   Are you free to do whatever you like or are there rules you have to stick to ?

Hi Rik ,

thanks for giving this a listen  what you have heard so far is the best I can do for right now .

as far as the rules go ...some students will follow them & some students won't ....
from what I can tell , the best players and musicians I have heard in the class and there are many.... have been following them ..
you can hear it in their playing  that they are there to learn

the guidelines on this song for the students were to play the melody first and then solo over the songs changes for the second chorus .
they are looking for the student to play a combination of scale choices that fit the harmony in the places where the harmony is somewhat diatonic , then they want the student to be able to  play and incorporate the guide tones of the chords when the chords were in the chromatic voice movement...

the funny thing about this song is , it sounds very easy to play over until you try to play it

this song is a tune that I'm hoping I keep working on ...
BTW...if I had wanted to , I could have done anything I had wanted to do w this song and posted it ...
the thing is I had recorded much of my practice sessions .....whew....I got a long ways to go on this one

thanks Rik
Kenny

Rules or no rules Kenny, you have done a good thing here and it sounds really good too. Everything seems to meld right together and a good mix to boot. Should get an "A" for this one.

Peace and Blessings, John

Noisy Neighbour
It sounds easy and relaxed. I hear more the guitar player than the student. Enjoyed it like a summer breeze!

Greetings from sunny Amsterdam, Daniel

One thing I've learned about music over the last 31 years is there are no rules, just guidelines.

Nice work!

Scales are the easy part of improvisation.... the magic is in the timing... and your timing is very good.

Nice octave work, and I know how much practice goes into fluent octaves!

Kenny,
I really like the tone you got on this one.  No pumping or click souind - just smooth tones.  Good job.
