i cannot get this program to work properly in platinum
says no guide track

I have never used VocAlign, so unfortunately have no advice for you. You could, however, use Cakewalk's bundled VocalSync product instead. At least, in the meantime until you can get some advice from Synchro Arts.
 
I assume it works in a similar fashion to VocalSync, in that it requires a guide track to align with. The main difference will be how you designate which track to use as the guide.

I use vocalign, It works instantly and very well, I have vocalign project.  The plugin however requires extra steps that I can't explain right now, but I know they are completely un-necessary if you have vocalign installed correctly so that it shows up in the region fx.  I had a very difficult time when I installed it to get it to show up there and unfortunately I don't remember what I ultimately did, but if you can find out how to get it in the region fx you will be able to use this with much ease.

Choose your guide track first, then hit the capture button.
Then select the track you want synched and click Dub and capture that one.
Once you like the synch, hit process.

Glad its all sorted.
You can also use it as a Region FX
This way it is embedded in to the track and frees up resources.
I made this video last week

 
It's done the same way as Melodyne is used as a Region FX.
Choice is yours of course but personally I find working on smaller chunks of data (Like the vocal parts of a verse) keeps me from getting overwhelmed.
