I hung out with Eddie back in the 80's a few times and he wasn't overly egotistical back then.  Of course, the one time DLR stopped by the same club we were at, you could tell by his entrance and Eddie's reaction who the real ego-maniac was at that time and, shortly afterwards, they split up.  Too bad Eddie went down the same path.

I'll admit I've never followed VH, but I wound up here;

Silly question - is that DLR singing? I couldn't make it past Panama, shockingly bad. Maybe he couldn't hear himself, or the band..or something...

Is funny they cut that video... in the first 20s DLR has no bandaid on his nose, but as soon as Panama starts he does. I read somewhere he had smacked himself with the mic stand, but never seen footage of it happening.

As far as the OP, I continue to lose more respect for Eddie as time goes by. It is disheartening since he has done some friggin amazing work, but his attitude is beginning to make DLR's look tame.

Yep, I agree with Sammy, this has been brewing for quite some time.  The VH brothers have been trying to keep Sammy from performing any of his own songs, that Sammy wrote, sang and recorded with Van Halen, live at his own concerts or on TV or radio.  Check out this article from last week. http://www.hennemusic.com/2015/10/sammy-hagar-says-van-halen-are-jealous.html

Yeah, I saw the original when it first aired live.  The Jimmy Kimmel video was a take two “do-over” because during the first live video taping DLR smashed himself in the face and sliced his nose open during Panama while hamming it up spinning half the mic stand like a baton twirler.  They took a 15 minute break and put a bandage (which you can see in the video) on his nose and came back to play eight songs total.

Sammy’s bio book was really a great read, both a laugh riot and really interesting and informative about his 40 plus years in the business.

Have a good one!

I try and appreciate the music for what it is and not take the drama into account. As such, Van Halen has quite a bunch of terrific albums - almost everything up to Unlawful is top notch rock and roll.

In terms of singing, there's no doubt in my mind that Hagar is a much better singer - whereas Roth has an incredible tone and is a great performer - though at times, too much of a clown for my own taste.

As for personal drama, considering how EVH publicly dismissed Randy Rhoads and allegedly behaved like a complete arse when Rhoads tried to talk technique with him, his outrageous comments about Michael Anthony don't really impress me. He made a fool of himself, really.

I'm pretty sure young Randy was thinking of Eddie when he said:

For someone like Randy, who actually taught guitar, who was always eager to learn and to exchange, EVH's attitude made no sense.

Nahhh ... at least they are ... OK ... to look at ... the other two are ugly! With or without the guitar or voice!

Interesting, the Van Halens wouldn't let him play any VH tunes on Live from Daryl's House, but Led Zeppelin gave him the go-ahead to cover their stuff. There aren't many gentlemen in this business, are there?

Sometimes, when you're not happy with yourself, you tend to take it out on others........unless you're Kanye W.....then you're better than all of them......put together.

Kanye would be the perfect running mate for D. Trump.

Comedians everywhere would be falling to their knees in thanks.

They have no appetite for instruction, it seems.
