But I know from experience that even a Marshall DSL will work for me. I'm not overly anal about sound - I do have friends who like to make a fuss about fretboard wood and every little detail. Me I'm happy with "a" Les Paul and "a" Marshall.

Rain,

I'm surprised that you not spotted this yet.  Serious GAS!

That looks GREAT!
GAS....

I love the twin Ram's head lamps.... very cool.

Got them from Home Goods a few months ago. They immediately caught my eye, but my instinctive reflex in those case is to think - nah, I don't really NEED those, I can get a couple of cheap ones. Worst case, I'll think about it.

Which isn't indicated when you're shopping at Home Goods because they seem to have a very limited quantity of certain items and you just never see them again.

So my wife insisted and I took the two they had. Never saw any of them there after that.

Hey Rain. Don't overlook the JCM 900s. They are good amps. I think especially the SL-X, it is all tube, no clipping diodes. Even a tube rectifier. If you get too much gain have the power tubes biased a little colder.

Here are a couple of clips: High Gain and in the first clip clean at about 1:12
The second starts clean. The SL-X seems to do anything and they are a steal right now.

There are lots more vids. Check the ones by
Johan Segeborn a comparison of three 900s here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnKsYgMoz1g

IDK... I've wanted one for a while.. a long while. I should get one while they are under priced. On the DR, you and jumper the FX loop then adjust the level for better tone. Interesting amps and a steal. Tey got a bad rap, undeserved I think. I hope you get an amp you really love.

Oh, I wouldn't mind a 900. :)

But I don't have the patience/the years ahead of me - the minute I have the green light, I'll just log into Sweetwater's web site and move the DSL half stack from my wish list to my basket and check out, using a payment plan or credit if need be (though I don't think I'll need to this time).

That's basically what I did for my white Les Paul studio - looked for something simple which wasn't plagued by all the junk Gibson put on their guitars in 2015, found this deal on the Studio at AMS, placed the order and I'm as happy as could be.

I had friends suggesting that I try and find a GOOD used Les Paul, one that dated from before X or Y depending on who I spoke with., and one with these or those pick-ups and these or those tuners. But I find that I'm 100% fine with this one. I found MY guitar.

Heck, even the stuff which I used to feel calls for a strat I'm comfortable playing on this baby. Here's a little improvisation/jam (couldn't help myself when I hit upon a combination of wah + univibe + octave fuzz on the POD HD... I mean, it calls for it. :) )
Low quality audio, directly from the MacBook cam.

I love it!! I'm glad I am not alone, lol. You do have more years than I do (I hope) I was telling my wife this morning I don't want to come to the end and never have had a Marshall head. I have a JTM60 combo, it's OK but it isn't the same. I've always heard good things about the DSL series, all of them. When I used to go sit in the store and check out everything I could I really liked the DSL15 combo, to me it sounded a little better than the DSL40 but at volume... with a pedal, who knows.
I may get an SL-X if I find a good deal on one. I don't need one but I didn't need a 4WD truck back in the 90s either, when I got that out of my system. Too many amps too little time. I'd like a 45/100, a SLPHW, a 1987x, a bluesbreaker, a VOX AC30... I do not believe one can have too many amps. I have two strats, down to one LP, three acoustics, a Suhr LE, Epiphone Sheraton II, Gibson SG (thank you), a couple SX Chinese guitars, an Alamo Fiesta, maybe more.... that is more than enough guitars but there will ALWAYS be another amp I'll want. I know that. I love amps!
I hope you get it soon!

PS... DANG, I forgot. I used to have a JMP50 head. So much for that argument, lol. I won't remind her.

I had a 1985 JCM800 head that I bought from a friend in 1987. I got hard up for money in the late 90's, so I pawned it "temporarily" for $150. I went to get it out 5 months later, and found that they changed their policy from holding it for 6 months to 4 months. It was gone. Somebody got a steal... The best amp head I've ever owned. I still feel a little sick to my stomach when I think about it.

Wow, I would too!

I liked my '79 JMP then had Mike Soldano mod it and loved it even more!

I played through one of those for the first time recently - turns out that my best buddy here in Vegas had one in storage and took it out for the big KISS Night. Amazing.

But, for whatever reason, that JCM 800 above just seems to be an even better fit.

I really miss it, but here's the back story if you will.  When I was trying everything Line 6 (I did some beta testing for them too), I just loved the so-called JCM 800 tone they had on the Pod Pro.  I certainly wasn't able to get the same from a JCM 800 which always seemed a bit thin.  Turns out, they actually modeled a Soldano-modded JMP for that preset so I said "What the hell, why don't I find me the 'real' thing!"  I ended up having to get the head separately then have Mike mod it, but it was definitely worth it!  Plus it sounded MUCH better at lower volumes for practicing in an apartment - lol!
