Text outlining the key techniques works best for me, Craig.  I *hate* having to watch a video in order to get technical info.

The video is there to do before and after examples. The video never lasts longer than the song, and alternates between the original mix, adding some processors, and playing the finished mix. The only "video" aspect is you can see which effects are being added at which points in the song.

Where are these posted, Craig? I would love to watch them!

The links are in the "You Mix, We Master" articles in the eZine. The videos are unlisted because people would watch them, ignore the fact that they exist solely to accompany the article (see above), and then make stupid comments . The videos don't make a lot of sense without the article that explains what's going on.

If that is the fear for not making them public, put a link to the ezine within the description.

I would only expect limited views if the only way to get access to it is buried in a publication that currently has a somewhat limited audience.  I also think that based on the user comments so far, a lot of people would like to see the settings / screen shots on screen.

So when you go to the EQ and Limiting added to the track, the average person wants the visual of what you set those things at.  I fully realize it is listen with your ears exercise you are getting across - but I'd expect more interest in them if you just sapped some screen shots of the settings you used on specific plugs as the video demonstrates different things.  hearing the differences you are creating is obvious, I'd imagine people would like a peek behind the curtain.

Mr. Craig,
I have always been interested in what became of your offer. I really wanted to submit something, but, I  never heard what became of anything that you had asked for. I thought that maybe you never got any requests, so that was why nothing was heard. May I  PM you also?

I've been doing one a month from the initial batch people sent, starting with the 2017.05 issue of Tech+Music. There is still a queue of music from the "early adopters" who sent me material, but feel to PM me with a download link and I'll add it to the collection.

The videos include screen shots of the effects that are used, as well as some text overlays describing parameters like EQ settings. It varies from video to video. Here are links to the videos done so far. The 2017.08 eZine should hit in a few days, but I've included the link as a preview.

To clarify, I meant to make the video public but then in the YouTUbe description put a link to the ezine.

The only way I found them was through the ezine, whcih I note will have a limited audience (at this point) and given the work you put in for this, I'd think you would want it to get out more.

I had 05,06,07 running in the background as I listened only periodically watching the screen and only saw the text when I would "check in" visually.   By some of the comments others made on the videos I assumed screen shots were not part of it.

(I think you need to adjust the links above - those might be pointing to your personal youtube edit page of each video - so we wouldn't be able to access directly).

So i would literally love to have Craig master one of my tracks and explain the mistakes

Great question, Id posted that (how song is chosen/submitted) after reading the first You Mix/We Master article but never heard back. Well now I know.
(And who wouldn't want that, Id even pay him for it, but probably cant afford it, LOL).
Im caught in an endless mixing/mastering loop, with my own material, never happy, if its someone else's I usually do it within a week. LOL.
I haven't updated since 2017.06 so haven't read recent one, but I hope the video's catch on and continue, for me its good to have audio/visual to reference with text article,  Ill go subscribe so Im reminded, and watch some more.

Cheers

Yes, a PM will work. Actually I've thought of discontinuing this feature because the YouTube videos are getting hardly any views - the last one has only 86 views, so either there's not much interest in hearing the before and after files, or there's not much interest in mastering.

The videos take a long time to make. Would just describing the techniques used and showing screen shots of the processors be enough for most people? That would allow me to justify the time.

Perhaps instead of video have before and after audio files. The text description could reference time points in the audio files when appropriate.
Personally I watched two of the mastering videos. They were informative. I did find myself wishing I could hear the full before and after versions to more fully explore the differences.
I'm sure that as usual many will appreciate your hard work and some will throw stones no matter what you do.
Thanks for all your efforts, Craig!

FYI these video links just take me to my youtube homepage. As good as most folks around here are at music production, accessing some useful information and such CAN be harder than you'd think it should be. I like the direct link to the Ezine in the new start screen. Wouldn't hurt to post the Ezine directly to the forum, perhaps as a sticky. Embedding the videos in posts on the forum would exponentially increase viewership I would imagine.

Using the links, I end up at the YouTube Creator Studio, not the video...

I went back and fixed the links that were quoted in subsequent posts...it should work now (fingers crossed).
