Ohhhh, high praise from a man who plays Eddie Van Halen note for note :-) That's rarer than hen's teeth.

Ok Geno. Ya know, I don't really "get" why that intro lick is even in there. If it's to attract attention and staying power for the listener, Ok then maybe. But, the intro is close to 1:00 minute. Which is cool I guess, but as far as "The song" goes, I think you want to get to the meat sooner. JMO.

Anyway, I still think the front lick is like 5 db too loud but nobody else has said anything sooooooooo......

Mixing in headphones is impossible for me. Just sayin.

Tim - Great observation!  You're right - the intro lick doesn't go with the song at all.  The reason it is there is that I was messing around one day with a drum beat and some guitar riffing and that lick came out.  I liked the beat so I started writing a song around it.  So the lick came before I even wrote the song.  I kind of liked how the lick came out and didn't want to delete it, so I tried to incorporate it into the intro.  But the song came out soooo different from the lick.

And another flaw is that the chorus doesn't come in until half way through the song.  At that time I wrote the song I was coming off of listening to prog rock stuff like Dream Theater where the songs are really long and the intros are way worse than this.  My mind set has certainly changed since I started doing vocal stuff.  When you are write / arranging for a broader audience, you can't afford to draw things out so much - or you'll lose people's attention.  Thanks for the constructive criticism.

Mark - Thanks for listening - glad you like it!

Tim - ok - I lowered the guitar intro lick a few more db.  And listening on my laptop speakers the levels seem to be good.  I'm going to make more use of my laptop speakers in the future - thanks for the inspiration to do that.

Pavlos - Thank you! That means a lot coming from you!

Brilliant work, Geno!  It is evocative of King Crimson in places and many other influences, as well.  To be able to write and play like this, one must have good taste in music to begin with.  You are truly one of the "Iron Chefs" of music.

Yea, laptops work pretty good I think for a final verdict (or, one of them).
A lot easier than getting a mix that will play in a car:)
I think you do have to learn the sound of each laptop. This is a Macbook and it was real different going from a Windows laptop.
I tend to reference stuff at billboard.com and other sites and files and get a feel for pro mixes.

Sounds great Geno. still think it's a teeny bit loud though.

Kenny - thanks for the comments.  This tune was recorded back in 2009.  But I've learned so much about recording in the last couple years, I re-mixed it with all my new knowledge.  I changed out the drums from Addictive Drums to Superior and changed the bass from Trilogy to Trilian.  I also added two "power guitar" tracks.  But the lead was the original from back then.  I posted it so people could hear some of my originals - I've got 3 CD's of instrumental originals and most of these I've never posted.  Any comments good or bad are always welcomed.

I've been busy Geno  yet,  I wanted to take the time to come back and say thanks for giving me the info on your song ..
Yeah ,  it's a cool song w some killer guitar playing and tones
