Is there enough content/samples/instruments in these to use without turning around and buying more?

With discount season approaching, I'm Konsidering Komplete, probably not Ultimate unless the case is compelling enough.

There is a TON in both...

Ultimate of course gives you WAY MORE, and the Softube made Effects, which are nice...

But K10 is sufficient to do quite a bit...

IMO, there's sooooo much stuff in Komplete 9, it's enough to keep me busy for good decade. Reaktor alone will be a lifelong project.
Of course, Kontakt is the one I use regularly as I have a lot of 3rd party libraries, but the amount of synths included are really, really good quality........finding time to explore them all might be the main issue.

Bob, I think you'll find enough to keep you busy/interested/inspired with Komplete for quite some time......IMO, a worthy investment (on a good sale price of course).

Having said that, I still want to get Komplete Ultimate.

Echoing what has already been said. I have Ultimate 9 and have not nearly explored everything offered. I cannot imagine a situation that could not be handled by ultimate.   Dan

I'm going to be brutally honest.

I originally bought Komplete 8 then I upgraded to Komplete 9 ultimate and new Komplete 10 Ultimate.  I have invested.

of all the toys and samples and plugins in all of Komplete 10 Kontakt is the only one I use on a regular basis.  I mostly use Kontakt with 3rd party non Native Instruments Kontakt libraries.

The drums and basses are good decent samples and you can get by with nothing else for a long time with them.  Battery, Damage, all the 50s & 60s& etc drums, Cuba etc there are a ton of drums in Komplete.

I use Ez drummer/SD2 from Toontracks and have most  recently used mostly FXExpanssion Geist and BFD 3.  I don't hardly use any of the Komplete drum stuff anymore, or at all.

Orcestral Strings in base Kontakt are okay and decent, there are a few string packs for Kontakt depending on if you get Komplete basic or Ultimate.  Frankly I use 3rd party orchestral libraries for Kontakt like Orchestral Essentials I, Heavyocity libraries and recently mostly being using Vienna Instruments libraries that does not use Kontakt at all.

Effects in Komplete are good and if you get Ultimate the ones in Ultimate are much better and quite usable.  I use 3rd party VSTs.

Komplete or Komplete Ultimate are really great starting out packages - or if you need Kontakt and or 2-3 other products then it's really worth it as you get a ton of extra fun stuff for the price you would be paying for 1-2 products are full price.

Honestly in a year you probably will not be playing with 75% of the products in Komplete or Ultimate.

Another "+1" for Komplete.    I'm on regular K9, and while I've used a good portion of what it includes I certainly haven't touched everything.   There's just so much there...     Kontakt and Reaktor are my primary K9 tools, but I've used others often enough to make the package worthwhile.

I initially cross-graded to Kontakt 5 in order to use some of the reasonably priced libraries out there, of which there are many.   Sure, that's above and beyond Komplete itself, but I have yet to spend more than $99 at one time (and I only did that once).  But once I upgraded from Kontakt to Komplete 9 I realized there was so much useful content that I wasn't fully aware of and wouldn't have had otherwise.     My ideal goal is K11U, but $$ means everything.  Even if that doesn't work out I'd likely still go with regular K11 for the updates, particularly Reaktor 6.

I started out on Komplete9 (paid $500 for it).  But that was still cheaper than buying them separate.
I wanted Kontakt (for the 3rd party libraries mainly) and I wanted Battery 4...
What I found is I got SOOO much more!  Although Komplete is NOT the only stuff I use, like MachineClaw said it's a great starting point.  I've since upgraded to K10.  Was considering K10 ultimate, but realized that I don't even use the stuff I got!  So now, I'm taking a step back and getting into Reaktor and some of the other offerings... My goal is to learn (and use) some of them musically.

Believe me, you're gonna spend more on other stuff, but overall Komplete/Komplete Ultimate are a good initial investment.  And if you can help it, get it on sale.

To a "Newbie" yes. To a Pro, no such word as ENOUGH! You won't be searching for a while but with more speed, memory and storage, new instruments and plugins will keep coming and we, my friend, will keep buying!

Since I got my Komplete 10 (regular version) I have been selling off a lot of stuff and discarded other stuff. But I have held on to a lot of other plugins as well that I can not ro will not be without. Anyway, if you want the most bang for your $$ then Komplete is really, really good. It has pretty much everything you need next to whatever comes with your DAW of choice, but don't expect to never spend money on software again

Thanks for the info folks.  I'll watch for a good deal on Komplete.  I can always upgrade to KU later.

The only down side for me is that I already have GR5 ... it feels like a double purchase.  I did get a good deal upgrading from a throw-in version of GR4 though ($50).

I have Kontakt and Reaktor versions than came with gear so I'm really intrigued by them.  Reaktor has the potential to be a months long distraction.  :)
