  • Help, Converters said 96khz, Sonar said 44.1khz... now I can't seem to export

at the correct recorded speed

In Sonar sounds fine, Exported sounds half speed

Any thoughts how to rectify?

Thx

Try to explain how you were trying to export the file(s)  Your description is a bit cryptic.

1.  What do you mean when you say "converters?"  What converter said 96kHz?  What sample rate are you exporting at?

2.  How are you trying to play the exported wave files?

So if you mean that some external wave player renders the exported wave file at half speed, then it is because the headers of the wave file say that it is at 48 K samples per second but the data is actually 96K. How you got there is a bit of a mystery, but a simple solution is to change the wave header to the correct sample rate. That can be done with a hex editor, but there are simple utilities that will do it easily.

This is very strange, because SONAR exports always with correct headers.
It would be important to know which samplerate your project is -> its shown in the transport module.
But it does no matter if you export with 44, 48, 96kHz. The exported wavefiles from SONAR have always the right pitch and the right header.
This is very mysterious.

Restart your computer and don't open sonar and listen to your file.

I'm guessing two apps are warring over your interface sample-rate.

By the way I had a similar case.
As I opened a project with 96kHz 24-Bit all videos from youtube played double-speed like micky mouse.
This is up to your audiointerface.
As gswitz says: Restart your computer.

Apologies, let me expand on the issue.
I didn't notice when I recorded the tracks. My hardware converters were set at 96khz (rate locked). Sonar was set at 44.1khz. Played in Sonar everything sounds fine. Exporting to MP3 and playing on Windows Media Player is sounds like half speed. I sent the files to the client, they first noticed on their system that sounds like half speed so I don't think restarting my computer is gonna fix that.

Slartabartfast, thank you for the fixer tool. That looks like it could fix the exported file to the correct 96kz... but ... I need to get the client files at 44.1khz.

Anyway to fix the Sonar file so I can move forward?

I suppose I could take the exported file, change the header and reimport into a Sonar file with the correct khz?

Any easier thoughts appreciated
Mark

This is very very strange.
When SONAR loads audiofiles it sets itself to the curent samplerate of this files. You can even convert the files outside SONAR to new samplerates and SONAR follows them by opening the project.
I would look in the audiofolder and play one of the recorded files with the mediaplayer. Does it sound right?
First of all it has to be clarified what SONAR has recorded. Right-click the audiofiles for properties. 4608 kBit/s means 96kHz.
And don't lock your samplerate. Maybe then your audiofile is incorrectly played again. If the samplerate is locked to 96kHz you cannot play 44kHz !! Or try an other computer for playing.

I think the problem starts with why would you set your hardware to a different rate than Sonar?  That's bound to make a mess of things somehow.
If your interface is set at 96 then set Sonar at 96.

So, yes this was obviously a mistake, or possibly glitch as I set my sonar files and hardware converter both to 96khz and for some reason I see this one is now 44.1. The reason I rate lock the converter is that I would get drop outs... when I use rate lock it stops drop outs. Runs stable for hour + continuous recording, for over a year without a drop out since I started using rate lock. And also at some sonar upgrade point, sonar stopped automatically switching to the correct sample rate (This was before I started using rate lock)

THam... I'll check out the individual audio files

Other ideas?

Thx
