I have an i5 DAW with 16G of memory that I'm honestly not running into CPU/mem/speed shortages with.  At some point I want to go with a fresh, one gen back build ... but not right now.  I would rather spend dough on instruments

I am however concerned about the USB chipset and such on this board.  It came in an ASUS PC in early '13 and getting driver updates is a major PITA.  I tried expanding USB2 capacity with an add-in PCI card, but I'm not really happy with that either.

So to buy a little more life, is there an i5 MB out there that has a rep for being solid on the chipset, USB and video support?  I wouldn't mind using in-built video as long as I can use dual displays, one of which is a 4K.

I will prolly have to load up a fresh Windows copy on it too.

Motherboards from Z77 series on up all have USB-3 integrated into the Intel chipset.
Intel USB-3 is what you want for maximum performance/compatibility

Thanks Jim.  I really appreciate the info.

When I run out of room for guitars and keyboards, I'll hook up with you for a DAW

I can relate...
I've got G.A.S. for a PRS semi-hollow "wood library" Custom 24... and a 2nd Neve Portico-II Channel.

I wish my Black Beauty was hollow some times

I have my CC frozen in a jug of water to keep me from buying a Roland FA that I don't need.
