Try putting the file in Cakewalk/Vstplugins folder and then run the vst scanner in Sonar.

Dexed is a free DX7 emulation. If it's delivered as a .dll it needs to go in the folder where all other VSTis go, such as C:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins (for 64-bit). Don't know where the included patches go.

I have the 64bit version of dexed working on my Sonar Platinum 2017.8 EA.  The DLL file itself is 2,612,736 bytes in size and is located in my VST folder

The patches themselves are in the following folder:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\DigitalSuburban\Dexed

This folder also contains a file called Dexed.xml which is basically a text file that contains some parameters

The zip file that you download contains both the 32bit and the 64bit dlls.

The latest version can downloaded from here

Hope this helps

You cannot open dll files in that way so that message is entirely expected.

Follow promidi's advice above.

Make sure you're using the right version... 32 bit in 32 bit Sonar, 64 bit in 64 bit Sonar.

yes I got it I had to download a vst host  called savihost from the dexted web side , but I have to say is very weak and big latency I don't think you can use the asio driver  ...I was told that is very good ,.....but......
if anyone have some good soft synths for good price let me know ,.... thank you guys

The .dll is the vst software. You need to put it in the corresponding vst directory for either 32 or 64 bit OS. This defaults to /Program Files/cakewalk/vstplugins/ for 64bit or /Program Files (x86)/Cakewalk/vstplugins/ for 32bit on a 64bit system. You can not open a .dll with sonar.
