http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=12425874&q=hi&newref=1 A hair metal type tune song called Candy written by the singer in the 80’s. My cover band recorded this in my basement during a rehearsal about 8 years ago. The intention was to get a half-way decent recording for posterity / fun not really to get a polished mix. We did 2 takes and I had just learned the tune. This is the second take. Very basic recording set-up: SM57's on the guitars, the live lead vocal through an SM58.
Before mixing this down I fixed a timing mistake at the end of the song (I played1 and everybody else played somewhere around the “and” of 4).
I took the vocal tracks from the first take and crafted a double lead vocal and added it to the second take.
I got in touch with the guitar player and he remotely recorded harmonies.
I then re-tracked the drums with my current set-up. The drums you hear are the drums (i.e., no drummagog). It is a single take and I didn’t “fix” anything. There are a couple of places where I know I have to tighten up the timing … I’m not sure if I will address just those places or quantize the whole thing to my original performance (the tempo varies by about 4 bpm throughout the song).
The mix is pretty basic. One guitar panned 90% left and the other panned 90% right until the solo and bridge section where I pan them both to the center.
There are some artifacts I cannot get rid of from the lead vocal mic.
This whole thing was a mess and I spent a fair amount of time on it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
