Hey Folks,
I'm from down here in eastern NC, but my band is going up to NJ, and I know Springsteen, and Southside Johnny are like Elvis, and James Brown are down here.  So I wanted to learn some other songs from some other bands like them, but I'm not as aware of who those bands might be.  Can you give me some help?

Do you know the venues?  It says MN but I spent a good portion of my adult life playing in a NJ cover band.

A Jersey tune from the 1980's (this is a recent performance by John Pizzarelli) ... it is worth the 10 minutes.  It is a true tour of Jersey.

Hey and howdy from another Eastern NC caker..... Wake Forest is not far from here.... Sims, near Wilson NC.

I would learn a few "Jersey bands" tunes but don't knock yourself out learning a whole bunch of it. Keep the sets well rounded. I'm originally from South Jersey and Bruce was a local band to us. Just go up and have a good time playing the gigs. Be sure to include some good old southern rock like Skynard and Hatchet and the rest of those bands.

I'm sure the Jersey crowd get Springsteened to death and know good E Street covers from bad.... so do good covers or don't do it at all.

PS....leave your weaponry at home since they are NOT as friendly up there as we are down here to armament.

Aside from that..... they like to party in NJ so...... go with that attitude, play good tunes, and you will have a ball.

Open the third set with "I Did it My Way" done up blue grass style and keep asking if any one has seen John Hammond today?

First of all, I wish the webmaster would allow me to see ALL of the postings at once, instead of this 1-at-a-time crap.  Anyhoo, thanks for all the suggestions guys.  Between here and harmony central I think I've got what I need.  I was particularly looking for that raw kind of bar room sound like some of the early Springsteen stuff like 10th Ave, or some of J Geils-type stuff.  Even old stuff like Devil With a Blue Dress On.  Again, thanks for the suggestions.
