Remember the iconic high-speed images captured by Harold Edgerton back in the sixties, such as this:
 

 
This video is introduced by his nephew, and shows how a burst of photons is captured as it moves across a scene.
 
To get an idea of how much faster this technique is compared to Edgerton's, it would take about a year to watch the passage of the bullet through the apple in the set up above.
