This is a long shot since I know most of the people in these forums are not big fans of  classical music but a few of you are and perhaps might be familiar with the kunstderfuge website. I was going to post this in the songs forum to reach more people who might know about the site but I fear somebody might get their shorts in a bunch because it's not a song post.

Maybe Janet or perhaps Larry Alex might be able to help me with this.

I came across this site that allows you to download classical midi files and also classical sheet music in PDF format and would like to know if anyone here can confirm the validity of the site.

The site is called Kunstderfuge and the address to the site is kunstderfuge.com

It looks like an incredible deal but I would like to know if the site is legit before I join. I can't seem to find any reviews or other information about this site except for the few reviews that are posted on the site itself.

It appears to be a European site since the price for download is in Euros. The top tier membership for unlimited downloads for both midi files and sheet music is only 40 Euros, which calculates to only about 45 US dollars and that would be an incredible deal if it's legit.

It's a huge collection of classical music files with over 19,000 compositions. This would be a great deal because you not only get the midi files but also the sheet music that you can print out. I could never buy the individual sheet music for that price at any music store.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone can confirm the site before I give my credit card info to them?

Thanks,
Pete

I don't know about that site or what you are looking for, but these sites offer public domain (mostly) classical music in PDF format:

Also, check your credit card - some now offer special virtual account numbers for use online with dollar and time limits you can specify.

Most classical music is "public domain" so anyone is allowed to produce sheet music without any royalties. PDF's cost nothing to reproduce so I don't think there is a price "too good to be true".

But - I don't know about that site in particular.... and I know I never give my credit card to a small business, or a business I don't know of. Not because I believe they themselves are bad - but because I don't know how my card numbers are being stored.

Thanks for the response drew. The websites you mentioned are certainly an option although their libraries are a bit more limited as well as their midi files but I guess you can't beat the price of free. Thanks again.

Thanks coda. That's good advice.

For free classical MIDIs, here's a great option: http://www.piano-midi.de/. The guy does really good transcriptions.

For another paid site choice (why?), check: http://www.classicalarchives.com/.

+1 for imslp.  I've used them for all kinds of downloads.  Generally, I just google "<composer> <title> score" and if it's out there, I'll find it without too much hassle.  More often than not, I end up in the imslp site.

kunstderfuge.com is registered to someone in Italy according to https://who.is/whois/kunstderfuge.com

The site appears to have no contact details or address from which the business operates other than an email form to fill in.

According to http://www.kunstderfuge.com/bio.htm the owner of the site is looking to sell it.

It's obviously been quite a bit of work for someone to put together, but in the absence of a physical address that can be verified and other indications the site is (a) legit and (b) can be trusted to be secure would I make a payment other than through paypal so I can be certain the vendor doesn't get any of my card details?

No.
