Another noob question here. When using a synth capible of multiple parts like TTS1 I find that when making changes to a patch, like volume, it will not remember any changes. When I hit play again it reverts back to whatever the setting had been. Is there a simple way, or any way, to handle this? My short term work-around was to bounce it to an audio track so I could control it's volume from there.

as a workaround,

go to option-project-midi-out.

then uncheck the reset the controlor on stop.
(this will keep your seting for your softsynth TTS 1,also others softsynths one...

(this is per project setting),so this need to be done on each active projects.

I'm using Sonar 7 and I don't have that option under Option>Project>Midi Out. Do you know where else I might find it?

I've been successful at making changes to a patch it's self like the filter, envelope, tuning etc, saving those as a user bank and calling those up but when it comes to the volume I just can't get anything to stick. Doesn't matter if I make volume changes in the TTS1 or from the track view.

I agree. You only get the menu option when you have a Project open.

You will find Zero Controllers When Play Stops under Options\Project and then select the MIDI Out Tab from the Project Options window.

you find this setting box,under option-project-midi out (then just below the midi machine control MMC)

and yep it's only available when a project is active(open),& also this setting is only per project.

Thanks for all the suggestions but unchecking that box, zero controllers, doesn't make any difference to my volume slider. It's weird, while playing I pull the slider down in the track view and volume drops. After stoping and restarting the song the slider stays in the lowered position but volume increases back to the original level. From the TTS1 I drop the volume during playback but when stopping and restarting the slider goes back up and of course the volume is at it's original level.

From the help file this is what they say about the zero contoller checkbox. They don't mention volume, just pitch wheel, sustain pedal and mod wheel.

Zero Controllers When Play Stops--If you choose this option, SONAR sets the controller values of the pitch wheel, the sustain pedal, and the modulation wheel on all 16 MIDI channels to zero. It also sends a "zero all continuous controllers" MIDI message which turns off other continuous controllers on newer synthesizers. If you experience frequent stuck notes when playback stops, try checking this option.

i dont know it was not afecting the volume,that's not so cool.

i dont really use often the TTS 1 soft anymore not especially due to that small "bug",
but because i way prefer the use of the soundfonts using SFZ free soundfont player.


i will experiment with the TTS 1 again soon.(for now im out of idea "workaround" to fix this issue)

maybe someone will come shim on in.

edit:(i seem to remember a tweak that can be done on the TTSSEQ.INI file.
it was something like send reset to contoler or something like that.
i will re-read the README.RTF this infos is on it.

Is there automation on the track?
Have you checked the MIDI event list to see if there are controllers entered in the track data?
Look at the beginning of the song specifically.

If you are importing midi from a file, or other program it is likely inserting patch changes, and volume changes and saving them with the file.
This can also happen if you are using a keyboard connected to the system.

If your midi in Sonar does not have controllers entered directly in the track data, then you can insert your own patch, and volume controls in the track data.

You might want to reinstall the TTS-1 and see if that clears up the problem.

ok i found the infos on the readme RTF,

here it is from the readme.RTF:

If you are freezing synth tracks that have MIDI controller messages, setting this variable to TRUE (1) will ensure that synths will have their MIDI controllers reset before a freeze operation.

Please note that the global ‘Zero Controllers when Play Stops’ setting is not applied when freezing soft synths. This means that the current state of a continuous controller when play is stopped can cause unexpected results when freezing a synth.

If you experience this issue, rewind the project before freezing the synth.

Did you check the Event List view on that track? You might have a Volume control command embedded in the track.
