Unless I'm mistaken, it appears that Bubba is trying to give Bill the bird!

Back when I was playing full time, I suffered from chronic tonsillitis. But I had no health insurance and couldn't take time off for a tonsillectomy anyway. So I drank a lot of 7-Up with lemon juice at gigs and didn't speak on my days off.

So when I finally got fed up with that life and took a day job - with health insurance - the first thing I did was sign up for a tonsillectomy. In and out, they said. Well, that's for kids, not adults. I was wiped by the surgery, in extreme pain and and could not talk at all for several days. Singing was certainly not gonna happen.

After about a week, I was gradually able to speak again, but to my dismay I could not sing. Even a month later, my speaking voice had returned but I could not sing to save my life. It was clear that I'd lost it. Fortunately, singing is not part of the job description for an electrical engineer.

Later - too late - I was told that I'd made a horrible mistake while managing my recovery. Instead of being silent, I should have been exercising my voice the whole time. When my throat healed, it lacked elasticity from tightening up in its relaxed state. What I should have done is start talking right away despite the pain, and singing as soon as possible. I didn't, and had to accept that I would never sing again.

That was 34 years ago. I've slowly gotten some of my singing voice back, but it never was nor ever will be as strong as it was before the surgery. Don't make the same mistake I did: sing, sing sing!

I don't know why, but I picture you returning to your doctor's office and playing out the "I want more life" scene from Blade Runner.

Hang in there, Bill. We're all hoping you get your voice back soon. I can't imagine how frustrating that would be. (Everyone else I know is intrigued by the idea of having me find out.)

Frustrating is trying to speak to the bill collectors etc on time sensitive issues( fines and or referrals)  and them saying "sorry but I can't understand a word you are saying, please call back later ".

I'm back to the Doc at 1 pm to take all the staples and stitches out. YEAH!

Hmm, Doc says there may be voice box nerve damage so I'm scheduled to see a specialist tomorrow. Tomorrow? Wow, I'm glad it wasn't me making that appointment. If I did it may be 2 months before I went to it

Hi,

A NEW SONG!!!

There is a song I wrote but haven't finishedd because I lost my voice. I may wind up getting someone from the forums for help. It's been 6 months now

Tom Waits couldn't sing either ... no one complained! Neither did Burroughs for that matter! No one complained either of his voice in Laurie Anderson's stuff and others!

Stop worrying about the voice ... it might not be the "same" anyway ... all we can hope is for the best, and you being able to adapt to what you are given and can handle.

Weird!!!!

Today was the first day I was out and about in a normal routine. I still can't talk but I feel much better. Not being able to speak is a real pain in the rear! I spent my day playing Bridge of Sighs. I can get that exact sound  My how my Strat screams

Anyway, what else can't I get into on MY PC and change or delete without permission? I want to know!
