Hey Guys

Just wanted to share my review and demo of Hypernova, a new Kontakt Synth from CL-Projects.

Check it out.

Thanks!

Thanks, David... very nice, although I'd say it's more a hybrid, along the lines of Omnisphere....than a true synthesiszer like U-he makes.... using samples and wackin'g them with synthesis... very nice... for 50 bucks, even nicer...but I'm sooooo overloaded these days... still... arrrrrrg!

BTW, enjoy your creations.  Thanks for sharing...

Nicely priced at 50 bucks, so even if it's no Diva or Zebra it's a much smaller investment than those more versatile synthesizers.

And probably a gentler learning curve, too. It would work well for the casual synthesist, somebody who's really not synth-oriented but instead uses synthesizers as flavoring rather than as the main course. Hmm, that describes me.

If someone understands envelopes and has a rudimentary understanding of filters and LFOs, they can be a total ace sound designer with Hypernova with about zero extra effort (as you will all be able to read in the upcoming installment of Points of Kontakt in the next issue of SoundBytes in about six weeks   ).

Sounds nice, but I don't have Kontact, and don't intend getting it either.

The front end looks so much like a Novation synth... I wonder if that is deliberate...

edit:-

Ah... I've just read the article at CL-Projects, so I guess that answers my question......

Yep, they very thinly veil their inspiration haha.

I find that interesting someone that doesn't have Kontakt by the way... It seems like SO many of the biggest sample and synth packages require it. I mean nothing wrong with not having it of course, but it's just really interesting to me to hear someone not at least having Kontakt Player.

Hi Dave,

I stay away from sampled (sampler) stuff, I suppose, and I always associate Kontact with samples. It's just a creative decision I made a long time ago. If I do use samples, it has to be something that I have sampled. And to get Kontact now, for something like Hypernova, is not cheap. So I keep giving it a miss.

The nearest I have to a sampler is Absynth, but it is the only synth that I use than can play samples. Except I don't use the presets that do. And I use Absynth less and less now that I've got excellent synths like Hive and the Arturia V series stuff.

I've got an unloved Yamaha A3000 gathering dust somewhere...

Having said that, I have very recently embarked upon a couple of sample mangling projects, but I consider this to be different from sample library stuff .

Silly in a way, because when I hear some of the stuff that peeps create with vocal sample libraries, I think they sound great...

cheers
