I have been more inclined to get videos or an all access pass lately also. I got an all access pas so I could watch the Akai Advance keyboard videos since my midi board died. It's great to get that much info about a product before you buy it.

I'm not sure what the problem is. If you need it and you have the funds, buy it. If you need it and don't have the funds, either save up or forget about it/look for a free alternative. I like to think we're all adults here with something resembling self control!

I get a ton of these offer emails every day and I don't feel the urge to buy anything I don't need. I'm happy to get them though, because they keep me up to date with new products and if I ever need something that's on sale, I'm glad of the discount. I think most people here already have a ton of stuff to be getting along with, but what you're forgetting is that these sales are a godsend to people who are just starting out and who want to build up a collection of basic mixing tools.

have you enough to make / mix / master a tune ? if the answer is yes.. then focus on that.

I really have to justify buying something now.. that includes DAW updates, which I have a 3 + reason.

try a different tact.. only buy something new IF you are making money out of what you made.. thats how it used to work back in the 90's or whatever.

as for "bait n switch" tactics... well my biggest time for buying now is xmas.. and if I suspect is company is gonna do mercenary discounts, then i'll play em at poker also.. devaluing products products quicky is a sure way to "annoy" existing customers.

A $700+ fuel pump replacement changed my spending habits. Plus things like eggs and bacon went up as well.

I still have 4 systems that started out as two DAWs, then an everyday system and of course a HT/Gaming/DAW. I was going to upgrade all of them which meant replacing everything but the drives and video cards. 2 I upgraded and decided that the other two when they die they are not going to be replaced. They all have pro audio cards. So it's like having 4 DAWs.

My best investment was getting a Mac Pro video account at $15 a month.

Sometimes if you have too much, you accidentally buy another copy of something.  I rarely download free stuff. There is no such thing as a no brainer except for the fuel pump.  Between Waves, IK, and Melda, I have more effects than I'll ever use.

I guess the real insanity is those who use Reason and buy those rack extensions.  They've soaked a lot of money into their DAW.

I religiously updated Sonar, mostly because of some software they included like Melodyne or Dim Pro. I have haven't  been very happy with the Sonar side for a long time now. 8.5 was my most productive phase. (I work a lot with MIDI). Since 8.5 it has been a constant battle against their changes.... Obviously you have to upgrade with ths newer PC formats at some point.

I have pushed back greatly on buying plugins and software, mostly because I end up not using what I already have. Eventually you are forced to uprade some things when support stops. On the upside, I rarely buy anything that isn't heavily discounted. I've been burned too many times by software companies. That being said, Scuffham, Orangetree, and Vallhalla Reverb are run by decent people and I would never pay anything less than full price for their products.

I am almost embarrassed at times by the amount of tools I have at my disposal nowadays .

I think back to the beginning when my effects were 3 DOD stomp pedals for guitar. I recorded on a Tascam 4 Track through an SM58 mic...a Casio CZ101, a little Yamaha RX7 drum machine and a Yamah Sequencer....it took forever and sounded pretty sad at best.

Now I can slap an entire song together in one or two days that sounds like it was done in a pro studio.

I swear sometimes I just buy new software hoping it will inspire me to come up with new songs. I'm not sure if that's good or bad....

To show how disciplined I've gotten I want the Waves SSL 400 collection so bad but I'm not going to bite. I passed it up twice now. I'm shaky though.

Oooh the money spent on stuffs... If I got a dollar for every new piece of software I have bought, I'm sure I'd be a millionaire by now!

I sat down almost two years ago and ended all my subscriptions to newsletters from software companies and roughly at the same time I found a new hobby to spend burning money on: Collecting Fountain Pens and inks That really slowed the spending on new plugins to a halt! Now I usually just spend money to update whatever I have kept if new versions come out. I also moved over to Mac and Logic and needed to rebuilt the system and change quite a few habits. One thing I did was to sell off almost all of my NI licenses and purchased Komplete 10 and Maschine. With the change, my plugin lists got really short and now I remember to use what I have rather than spending time hunting for new plugins to do something I am already equipped for. So I am falling in love again with old gear and discovering new and super fast possibilities that I have overseen previously.

However, this forum, the Software section, is probably the best news bulletin in the world for software news and I check in here a few times a month now to see what's moving. My spending on software have probably decreased by 95% the past two years - and I am being more productive than ever!

But thanks to everyone who keeps this place updated and current - it's a PERFECT place to check in with what's going on without the propaganda.

This kind of thread is why I love the CW forum, even though the only CW plugin I have is Z3ta+2.
You guys are philosophers of the human mind. And the consumer mind.
All of us, we're just trying to limit our stuff to what we really need to make inspiring music.
Still got to get that Omnisphere 2, though ...

You nailed it, Fleer...

as to O2... if I had to choose one item in my insane collection of "stuff"... it would be Omnisphere2, with a healthy dose of Skippy's recent offerings as he knows the instrument so deeply and spends the time to create the magic, collaborating with similar deep users...

Indeed, it is so overwhelmingly awesome as a creative/complete tool, I would give up most everything in my arsenal... much of it... for just O2...if i had to...  O2 is that versitile, powerful, useful, accessable, and stimulative in both a creative and construction sense.

Postpone all your urges till you have O2... then buy Airwave... and we won't see you round here for awhile!  You'll fly like never before...
