Good song and performance, very catchy.   I agree you could add a nice power ballad guitar solo if you decide to go that direction.   If I had one nit it would be the pad, I find the pad very distracting from the acoustic guitars and the vocals.    I think the song stands without the pad, or, you could add some strings in certain parts for decoration.  Just my opine...   But really nice work.

This isn't one of my favorites of your's Bob. Kind of monotonous. It's well done and sounds great.

NOTE:  New Mix Up 6-14-13 - As per your input and suggestions, I edited/removed the distracting vocal breaths, re-eqed bass for more definition and adjusted the bass volume level, and added a few light drum fills to help differentiate the song sections.  Thanks so much for all your great input, observations and ideas!

LOL, yeah, I originally thought I could get away with the breaths in the choruses because of the intimate acoustic environment, but I knew when I posted it that it already distracted me while I was doing the mix.  I'm actually really glad that you mentioned it to confirm that I should have gone with my original feelings.  For this new mix, I track edited the vocals to remove the breaths.  I'm always afraid of making things sound too sterile, but I sure don't want to end up with a situation like Steve Miller's "Big Old Jet Airliner".  I remember thinking how those deep breaths on that song always stuck out like a sore thumb ever since I won the album at a Wildwood New Jersey Boardwalk game booth on a vinyl LP way back when it was first released.  LOL, That song sounded like an obscene phone call!

Nope, I never had any type of vocal lessons, I'm completely self taught, but I've been singing lead and background vocals in a gazillion different cover bands since I was thirteen years old.  I was only playing guitar for about two and a half months when I got conned into trying to sing.  LOL, I can still remember the sheer terror as I stepped up to the microphone for the very first time in my first garage band, to try to croak out the lead vocals for Grand Funk Railroad's "I'm Your Captain (Closer To Home)".  I remember sweating and really thinking that I sounded crappy, but then the other guys in the band started nodding their heads and smiling so, it encouraged me to keep going all the way through the entire ten minute song!  YIKES!  So I ended up being the band's singer after that.
 
Anyway, thanks again, Bobby, for giving this a listen and for bringing back some memories of the good old days for me! Have a rockin' weekend, buddy!

Because it started out as just a gear test, and with only acoustic guitar and vocals, when I decided to add the drums, bass, strings and piano, I tried to simplify the drums a bit more like a country style drummer would play, as opposed to my normal clumsy, hard rock drum bashing.  LOL, YIKES!  That wouldn't be good!

I'll definitely have to check into Ursa Major online, because in the early days I learned some of my guitar style from the first couple Alice Cooper albums during the Glen Buxton years, namely "Love It To Death" and "Killer".  After a quick search I just realized that Dick Wagner played with Lou Reed on the live album, and one of my cover bands used to start the night with the long dual guitar intro and "Sweet Jane" from that record.  I also never knew that he was the guitar player on the "Welcome To My Nightmare" album.  I'll be checking out Ursa Major for sure!

The song is really just an accident that happened when I wanted to test out  a new mic preamp, and opened up a blank Sonar project with absolutely no idea what I was going to sing or play to test the preamp settings.  Bang, the opening chords and vocal melody/lyrics just popped into my brain like a lightning strike, and after checking the playback of the acoustic and solo vocal, I decided to flesh it out into a full song.  So, it is what it is, I guess!

Yes, Sir, I wasn't quite sure on how to approach the drums on this because I thought it would be acoustic guitar and vocals only.  As I mentioned above, I decided to just try a very basic country style drum feel, as opposed to a rock style with lots of flourishes and over the top fills, to just keep it simple.  Although, I did add a few very light drum fills to try to break up the sections a bit more.
