Hello Bob. A very useful post. I have Kontakt set up correctly, I am sure. The midi and audio routing is correct, I'm fairly sure. But, I still run into the same problem. All I can think of is that I have somehow routed stuff incorrectly but, for the life of me, I can't see how!

Can you confim that the issue you are reporting is about what you're actually hearing
and not just about what you are seeing?

Is it possible you picked the stereo out vs the 8 or 16?

I am wrestling with Kontakt as well.

Hello Steve. Yes, the issue is most definitely what I am hearing which is backed up by what I am seeing.

Hello Guy. I am sure I have the outputs correctly set in Kontakt.

Wrestling with Kontakt is such an apt way to put it!

Ahhhh ...
have you verified that each midi track is being sent to a specific (numbered as in 1, 2, 3 ) midi channel in the Sonar channel strip?

More clearly ... Never use "omni".

Speaking of wrestling with Kontakt - here's how to win the match and never have to get back in the ring.

1) Never use anything less that the full version - 16 stereo outs, in Sonar.
Reason is it will limit your possibilities of expanding if you need to, and the full version takes no more resources than the lesser versions.
Go to the plugin manager and disable the 2 lesser versions and never go back.

2) Reconfigure Kontakts output section as described in this video. ( jump to 5:07 for the meat of the issue )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11yaPOIaZ70&t=304s
The assignment menu for audio tracks in Sonar will never again be confusing!
(Edit: in the video ... Easier to delete all tracks including the 4 AUX and add 16.)

Setup to create a K5 1 track template:
3) (One time) Load and setup Kontakt with all audio outs, and with it all contained in a track folder.
Delete the second set of 16 audio outs that are not assigned to 1 thru 16 in Kontakt.

4) Remove the 1 midi track from the folder and move it to it's own folder called "K5 1 Midi"

5) Rename the folder containing the 16 stereo audio tracks to "K5 1 Audio" and also rename the tracks as 1,2,3,4,5 etc.

6) Create 15 midi tracks, move them to the folder called "K5 1 Midi" and reassign them to point to that instance of Kontakt and make sure to also assign individual midi channels and also rename the tracks 1,2,3,4,5, etc.

7) (Optional) Create a bus called K5 1 and point all audio tracks in the "K5 1 Audio" folder to that bus.

Now ... Create a track template of this setup.

From now on, any time you want to use Kontakt in a multi session to any amount of individual tracks,
just load that track template and you're ready to go.
If you're going to use less than 16 channels the just hide the others.
---
I did this a long time ago and it has been smooth sailing ever since.

P.S. It also couldn't hurt to save your output setup inside of Kontakt.
Go to Preset/Batch Configuration and save it there under a specific name like for instance
"16 stereo - No AUX"
This way, if you ever get messed up you can just reload that Output configuration.

Geez Steve! What an awesome post! Thank you for going to that effort. I will try what you have suggested point for point (and will watch the video). I'll let you know how I go. Sounds very promising.

Yes, each track is routed to its own midi channel in Sonar.

You're welcome. Too bad we haven't yet figured out the original problem.
At this point, if it were me, I'd be uninstalling Kontakt and Sonar and reinstalling both.

Hey Steve Karl, I really dig your setup, eliminate all the confussion! however the video you suggest is 4:33, yet you suggest to jump to 5:07?
Is there another video?
