This time I don't understand the joke, becasue:

"It is a common mistake to assume that the name Depeche Mode is purely a translation from the French for 'fast fashion'. Dépêche means dispatch (or update, message or news), mode means fashion.
So Depeche Mode means Fashion News or Fashion Update. The confusion arises from someone remembering their high school French: the verb 'se dépêcher' means to hurry, which is probably where the 'fast' originates (thanks to Lawrence Koch for explaining the French translation and the source of the error). So, Depeche Mode is named after the magazine and that name roughly translates as Fashion News."

Interesting.  I never knew it actually meant anything.  It was more a loose poke at the band where my friends always thought "Depeche" was the sound a turd makes when it hits the water and "Mode" is close to commode.  Remember, just because a joke is original doesn't necessarily mean it will be funny or make sense!

Pop music is dead. It's all about how you feel. No need to know chords or notes.

I love pop music.

I love the top 10.

That's because I've convinced everyone that what I like is the best.

Which means that everything I like is now the Top Ten.

Oh.

Bugger.

Hi,
Zonno ... trying to teach an American about foreign languages is ... not cool ... and politically correct!

Specially Oregonians, who only know C&W top ten, and think that Depeche Mode, is some soufflé of an idea about something or other. There is nothing worst, than trying to translate words, over here in the West Coast ... not only don't they care, it makes for yet another reason NOT to listen to that band!

I can tell you that "Depeche mode", a la Peter Cook (de la peche a la mode avec le frog)--- with apologies to peter Greenaway, of course, was worth a few funny jokes in Pendleton, but ... not sure London would know Pendleton from a blade of grass, or a round-up or a fart in the wind!

I was really thinking that we should tell these folks about FTM ... but ... it's not worth the time and effort however funny, it might not be!
