SixfingerSo it appears I'm getting close on the mix. I always worry about getting my vox too loud (not being a real singer) and maybe get the overall mix a bit hotter? What do you think on that?
Ha... not being a real singer... priceless! Well, your modesty gives hope to
those of us that really can't sing that there's hope yet... :)
RE: mix, actually one of the things that stood out to me was the overall quality of your mix. Certainly could use some balance tweaks here and there, and as you say bring up the overall level, but as a whole the mix is very well balanced... for me, if I can focus in on detail of the guitars, bass, drums, vocals, etc., and nothing is competing for space and tone then you have a really solid mix, at least as a starting point for polishing. You have a lot going on in this tune, but it's all pretty clearly laid out, IMO. The only real criticism on the mix is a slight lack of bottom end overall... which is not to say boost the bass guitar! The bass sits pretty well where it is, but the mix could use some mastering EQ and compression to polish the overall level, dynamics, and tonal balance... Which is a long way of saying -- don't futz too much with what you have now, cuz I think it's pretty close to what an ME would want as a starting point. I also think that the reverbnation encoding is pretty artiifact ridden, so it'd be unfair to make really specific recommendations without hearing the original source. Don't know what bitrate that is, but I hate to say it's pretty warbly in spots.
