There is quite a lot going on in this one, makes it so easy to lose ones perspective. Your thoughts will be appreciated.

Deep vocals for sure and some nice guitar riffs. Nice, sweet and simple is good. Nice mix on everything. Very lovely song.

Nice stuff. Love the overall vibe, vocals, and structure. The verse changes remind me a bit of a Leon Russell vibe... one of my favs. Love the oohs. Fantastic singing and production. Definitely familiar and different at the same time. Compelling for sure.

Thanks for the positive comments! When I started writing this I was trying to think of the one thing that would be the worst, the thing that would give me the blues like no other. What I came up with was being lied to by God, but I just didn't want to say that. So down a tier to the Angel. Then I approached it like one of those movies that start at the end and flashback...

So it appears I'm getting close on the mix. I always worry about getting my vox too loud (not being a real singer) and maybe get the overall mix a bit hotter?  What do you think on that?

Ha... not being a real singer... priceless! Well, your modesty gives hope to those of us that really can't sing that there's hope yet... :)

RE: mix, actually one of the things that stood out to me was the overall quality of your mix. Certainly could use some balance tweaks here and there, and as you say bring up the overall level, but as a whole the mix is very well balanced... for me, if I can focus in on detail of the guitars, bass, drums, vocals, etc., and nothing is competing for space and tone then you have a really solid mix, at least as a starting point for polishing. You have a lot going on in this tune, but it's all pretty clearly laid out, IMO. The only real criticism on the mix is a slight lack of bottom end overall... which is not to say boost the bass guitar! The bass sits pretty well where it is, but the mix could use some mastering EQ and compression to polish the overall level, dynamics, and tonal balance... Which is a long way of saying -- don't futz too much with what you have now, cuz I think it's pretty close to what an ME would want as a starting point. I also think that the reverbnation encoding is pretty artiifact ridden, so it'd be unfair to make really specific recommendations without hearing the original source. Don't know what bitrate that is, but I hate to say it's pretty warbly in spots.

Thanks so much for your input Keith, and thanks to Sonar for letting me do enough vocal takes to get something of use :).

As to the bit rate my mp3 was 160, and who know's what they do to it, truth is my old ears and still constant exposure to loud stage levels cause's much mistrust as to what I hear or don't hear. But we do what we can and have fun with it.

I'll give it a break to regain my perspective then patiently tweak a bit further.

Your comments both enlighten my thinking and at the same time gives confidence I'm on the path.

Sounds like plan...  ... always a good idea to take a break with mixing... really easy to not hear what you're missing, or long for something you don't really need. RE: 160kb MP3... that probably explains it. My first few listens were on low and mid end sony phones,  and the encoding didn't stand out at all.. but I listened with a nice pair of mixing phones last night and some of the artifacts were pretty harsh. Doesn't distract from the quality of the tune and production though...

Vocals are always are very difficult. I thought they fit fine. Nice guitar work too.
The very beginning of the song seems to have some timing issues but it settled into a nice groove.
Good song.
