I bought an early IPod Classic 160gb and transferred all my library via lossless or 320k-set it to shuffle and off I go-haven`t played the radio since.
but-it is the only apple device I own and I still smile watching the missus viewing spreadsheets on her Ipad-talk about form vs function-
also-I don`t upgrade ITunes regularly as it suits me fine as it is-why constantly fix something if it aint broke??
cheers

I'm constantly using my iPods (which MediaMonkey can update just as easily as iTunes).  Not counting a dead 40 GB (which needs a new battery), I've got a 160 GB, an 80 GB, a 60 GB and a 40 GB (at my Mom's).  I used to keep one upstairs, one downstairs and one in the car, but now I don't use one in the car and restock 'em all occasionally (one is all Electronica and the other is everything else except Classical).  With close to 2.5 TB's of songs, I switch each one around from time to time.

I've got two sets of these which work great for iPods!

Why the heck wouldn't Apple want to make iTunes simple??? I don't get it.

iTunes, besides that, is crap, and the worst music place I have ever seen. I like Beethoven's 9th marked up as tunes and not in order! ... very smart! totally off base and just shows how stupid and maniacal they are!

They are called movements.... and some people prefer some movements over others and want the ability to not listen to the entire Symphony. If you want to hear them in order - just make sure iTunes is set to play by song order.... not on random, not alphabetical, etc... etc...

Now.... if a recording has the movements out of order, that is NOT iTunes (Apples) fault. The person/company that submits the recording sets that - not Apple/iTunes. Your blaming the messenger. As a POP reference.... If I re-recorded (covered) Supertramp's "Crime of the Century" and put "Bloody Well Right" before "School" music lovers from that era would be in an uproar, but would that be the fault of iTunes (Apple)?

I'm not arguing about iTunes being crap or not... I'm just pointing out that your comment makes no sense at all to this thread...

One of the main problems is that iTunes started as a media player but became one monster of an application, that's used to do a million things besides playing back music, from syncing devices to streaming to "connecting" with artists and following them.

Too big for its own good.

Plus it was never optimized (most say on purpose) to work with Windows.  It was a dog even when you only had a few thousand songs in it.

But isn't music constantly evolving and being updated on a second by second basis? And if so, who could possibly keep up with it? Or would, really, want to?

And if all you have on your "memory devices" is "old" music you're familiar with how long can you continue to listen to it before it starts to wear on your psyche?

And if you try to both keep up with the new and still give equal time to the old...how much actual time can you devote to that effort before it impedes on your actual life?

I love music from most all genres and listen often to many, many old and new things...but I still can't imagine having hundreds...let alone thousands of individual tunes in my static libraries.

Apparently, YMMV.

Ah ha!  See?  There's the problem with your assertion.  When you don't have much of a life going, there's PLENTY of time to listen to all sorts of music!

*Sigh...*

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I have always found iTunes pretty easy to maneuver. I never really cared for Media Player.

I have always found all of my iDevises easy to operate.

Julien, upgrading to a 6 Plus with 64 gig helped me with some of those issues of space. When I didn't have space, I simple rotated music by checking, or unchecking music to sync with the phone.

I tried that, it does not seem to matter what I select or don't select, it imports every album to my iPhone. I've tried every way I can figure to import one album... but it moves them ALL every time.

@Rain Lowest common denominator, always. Isn't that the truth. It used to be just school but you're right. Most of what I read is from the 16th and 17th centuries. It takes a little more thinking but I doubt one of my daughters could manage it. It is a symptom, the "lowest common denominator" is REALLY bad for us as a society.

@ Ol Pal... I listen to music, not every day, but in the evenings sitting on the back screened deck while reading grilling.

@ tlw... Tell itunes you want to manage the library yourself. Otherwise it will find every media file on the computer and start moving them to the location iTunes thinks is best but DAWs might not.
I wish I could figure out where or how to do this. I can't find anything that says this. I have it set to not sync anything automatically. I still can't import just one album. I NEVER set iTunes as my default player for anything. I don't trust it to not make a complete mess of everything. I really try to do everything manually. If I ever use a default it is Media Player, it does not seem to try to do more than I want it to.. but with W-10, who knows. I'm still concerned about having no control over updates. I know I can change it in the registry but, I shouldn't have to and it is a symptom of what is going wrong with everything online. Pretty soon all online info is going to be compromised and someone, somewhere is going to know everything about everyone... but that is another topic.

I moved three albums to OneDrive. Seems fine.  BUT... I needed a player so I am trying an APP called EDDY. It is OK, the "PRO" is 3.99, the free limits me to 30 songs. I may try the PRO version but while it imports the songs in order, it resorts them to alphabetical order in the albums. I can make a playlist from each album and put the songs in the correct order but that is really time consuming, especially if you make and error and have to tweak it.
I don't know if it is worth it. Spotify is fine, I just want to access the albums I have and they don't have.
I still need to check out Media Monkey and I will. Bluetooth is a must have too.

@ Craig... what are those speakers?

Thanks!

OH, and what would happen if I completely removed iTunes from my computer and replaced it with Media Monkey. Would Apple bug me with popup messages every time I plug my phone in to USB to charge it?
Another gripe. My Pioneer in dash stereo has a USB hub for charging or connecting an idevice or I guess any USB device. If I have ANY music stored on my phone it will change from radio to iPod and begin to play whatever I have on my phone... that was the original reason I took ALL the music off my phone. It is a small inconvenience and all I have to do is hit the source button 5 times, but I have to do it EVERY time and it gets old. Maybe an iPod with Bluetooth is what I want. Then no iTunes if I have Media Monkey? Apple wont bug me about not having iTunes?
