I got all giddy when it worked Still waiting for my FW card, and cross my fingers that it "fixes" the issue with off / on while pc is running (I will definetively keep using it either way, as I still usually power everything off at the same time. Might change if power off / on works.).
All the best.

I will likely use the tip from tascamforum if the new FW card does not do the trick, Ed. I see the upside to doing it (shutting down certain things while pc is on), even if I have not done so thus far.

Well, the 6pin/4pin/6pin did not work. I'm going to try one more (semi cheap) solution HERE since I know swapping the port works.

It will add one step to my power on process but I won't have to dig around the back of the FW-1884.

To bad it did not work, but cool that you have another solution to try. I am still waiting for my new FW card.
All the best.

I got my new FW card today (), but will not be able to try / put it in until tomorrow. Will report back.
All the best.

I got my new FW card installed today, and I can now turn off - on the FW 1884 without a crash Tried 3 times, and it just reconnected. Everything else is also just dandy There is still hope
All the best, and thanks again for guiding me through this.

Congrats on that Zarrgy. Although my FW card is TI I still get crashes. I believe my card is PCIe, is yours PCIe also?

Thanks, Ed. Yes it is. It is this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Syba-Low-Profile-PCIe-1394b-1394a-2B1A-Card-TI-Chipset-Extra-Regular-Bracket-/400825761465?hash=item5d5313beb9:g:rugAAOSwI-BWGxOD

It was quite reasonable as well
It allowed hot swapping, so maybe that helped?
All the best.

Oh are you saying that you can ONLY power on (while in Win 10) without a crash but only if you hot swap?

No, I just turned it off and on again several times without a problem. (I thought maybe it being able to do hot swapping helped when turning it back on again)

Maybe my card is not truly hot swappable.

The only time I can turn it on (while in Win 10) is after physically swapping the port on the back of the FW-1884 (moving from the last successful booted port to the other port).

Thanks for the insight.
