  • Why do I need Windows 10 Pro?

Why not just get Home?  It supports multiple monitors.  Why do I need all the "Enterprise" stuff in Pro?
Here are the differences between versions.  What in Pro is needed for a studio computer?

For me and I think others is the "Group Policy" feature, which allows more control of Windows "just updating" itself or doing any funny business in the background.

That said, another thing to definitely take control of if you get Win 10 Pro is "Bitlocker" to either disable it or password it yourself. The ransonware crap that goes on from time-to-time is seeking out Bitlocker capable machines and enabling it (with a password they then try to sell you).

Regardless of version, definitely take the time to do images on a regular basis, then you can back out of things cleanly and learn more as you go.

I have home on my laptop and haven't had any problems - I set my wifi connection to metered and it notifies me of updates and I download and install when I want ...

I think your main machine may be worth Pro for the group policy editor.  That can keep unwanted updates at bay until they are stable, or you are ready for them.  I also like the BitLocker feature for encrypting drives with personal data on them.

I upgraded a Win 7 Pro license to Win 10 Pro for free, so I cannot argue with that value.

I upgraded a Win 8 Home laptop to Win 10 Home, and so far have received a few updates I wasn't ready to deal with.  Ugh.

You can upgrade Win 10 Home at the Microsoft store.

At the bottom of the page abacab linked to, there was an ad offering W10 Pro for $35 from an outfit called Allkey4U.com. I was suspicious, so I checked it out.

Unfortunately, there's a good chance it's a scam.

There are sketchy user reviews that say vague things like "they had what I needed and the price was right", and "Perfect! Exactly what I needed". Apparently, they are selling Technet licenses. Those are Windows licenses you get with your TechNet subscription, and are not supposed to be resold.

I don't know if this holds true for W10, but on W7 I think the Pro is faster and more responsive than HP. Then again, that could be due to the considerable differences between the two rigs they are on. One is 10 years old with 6GB RAM, the other has an i7 with 32 GB RAM. But updates go a lot faster.

Also, there may a ram limitation with HP vs. Pro. At least there is on W7. Not sure about W10 since I don't have it. Can someone clarify this?

If you are an Win 7 you don't NEED Win 10 Pro.  But if already on Win 10 Home, you maybe should consider it.

My ad blocker worked perfectly!  I see no scammy ads on that site I linked to, or any ads at all for that matter!

I agree, that if the price looks too good to be true, it probably is...
