• SONAR
  • Silent Buses Detected...Master. No sound.

Hello,

I've tried to search with my above subject title (sans the term 'master') in a trusty Google search string ("keywords here" site:forum.cakewalk.com) but still don't see a solution for my particular problem.

The prompt names the culprit for my not having any sound: my master bus.

I did switch to a webcam earlier today and back.

While my copy of SONAR was open I simply pulled the USB male plug out of my laptop.

I think that may have contributed to my reason for writing.

It may be that I'm doing this out of habit and it confuses SONAR.

This prompt has presented itself a few times now and so I am writing to get a fix.

I see where 'master' is auto-selected in the mini drop-down for output.

The master bus has all unchecked muting, soloing, etc buttons.

Additionally there is no sound even showing up in any of the track activity monitors.

Anything will help.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Sounds like Sonar is losing track of your interface after you pulled the plug. Quit Sonar before you disconnect. If you get the message again, check your Sonar preferences to see if your interface is selected.

Shut everything down - SONAR, computer, interface

Switch interface on. wait a few seconds then boot computer. Finally launch SONAR.

This should work.

Or you can just reassign the bus to an acailable output assuming g your interface is once again recognized by sonar

Sir Les
Sometimes if using asio, you might have to go into the preferences and unselect asio by selecting something else present,  and then reselect asio driver for your device, gets it back...but not always, for some....
It was a workaround I found worked for me once upon a time.

The other workaround is as said above, might also work... turn off all, and computer also...turn on the external audio device, and boot back up the computer with it on......

Interface is recognized by SONAR and selected.

Interface is USB powered, dependent on laptop power.

Seemed attractive at first because I'd just have 2 play a mini game between a couple of driver options in a pull down but this didn't work after trying asio, wasapi exclusive, wasapi shared all recursively.

Could you tell me more? Or does it matter now that I've tried the above suggestions with their subsequent results?

I figure that if I understand this idiosyncrasy of SONAR Pro I should be able to apply it to any others I've had a programmatic hunch about.

Thank you very much for the help so far.

Sir Les
USB power management?....In device manager /system/ usb hub at the very bottom of the device listing...open it, and check all usb hubs and ports/pages to see if windows turns off usb ports and or hubs...you want to uncheck that box on all usb ports, unless you know which port is which port..of course...so you can set that as do not allow windows to turn off that port...or ports is vital to stop a laptop from conserving Power sent over usb.

I am sure you may have done this, but some times things get reset by updates....

Not saying it is the cause, but surely can make noise if being done, and or cause loss of driver...eh?

And in the Sonar Pref, doing the asio switch thingy....Did you apply or hit ok when changing up the asio to other, and then back again?...you have to hit the ok button on each change.

Just saying, it worked here as a work around...not all have the same issues...And, I hate troubleshooting...so I can understand the frustration caused by these little oddities, no one else has...or has witnesses except some have..and the work arounds come by fluke.

also check the default sound device for the system..and deselect, and reselect...also, I found in some cases, opening the sound icon on the task bar and reselecting, if internet was used...So, something in that being buggy with browsers tied or ties...Perhaps...But no links to anyone saying...and as the system I witnessed this on, was buggy..or corrupted, it might be moot to say...anything...But, perhaps mention is, a assumed issue...let us say.?

If sought solutions are said or to try...try, and if not, note it down ...so other can gain from your understanding of what works for...your kind of setup.

And share the good will....I think the EARTH...needs a bit of help...and more joy, less mind control and frustration...

Sometimes thinking out side the box, helps what does not work inside the box.

Best of the days to you.

keep the laptop plugged into the wall wart...

Hey all,

Bristol_Jonesy .

Thank you one and all.

It seems I just needed to find the Master vertical pane in the Inspector and toggle my soundcard in the mini drop- down menu.

A free .5 hr. join.me session where my buddy took over control of my laptop had us getting to the bottom of it.

Maybe Gibson/Cakewalk could implement join.me into customer service as well. Its free as of 07022017.

Just an idea. Don't mean to horrify any 'O dBFSers'.

I will refer to my past posts with you kind beings under my forum name and look for 'recent posts'.

It helps to look at recent posts so that I can be reminded of how I approach my DAW of choice and songwriting respectively.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely

Sir Les
Sonar Techs can remote view, they tried with me...Mike tried...system was too screwy because of auto updares dates put by forced updates...and I know not to waste too much time of others, knowing full well what caused the issues...So, I sought out the crappers....and they could not solve..the mess they made...via remote either.

So, Yah they got the means to remote view systems at the sonar tech support group...But you have to make a ticket for support, and call em up...But first I sought to try to get things working with the user base first....Try all, test all, tweak it,..sort it, find it...say it if it works, and I got it to work, and then, they made it not work over at MS ...and keep on trying, until..last hope....

I did put a request in the sticky posting, when they said they were asking for life time updates..for $$....AND  I asked about technical remote viewing, and a possible new OS made or port to another platform, they tooted MAC port for in the works also,..and so on, and such.. ...be something to ponder into getting setup for......(and I pondered why would anyone need life time updates?....is it because of Bugs being continually put, by X that bugs are in the pudding or the cake? ) was the pondered underscore unspoken assumptions made in my mind.

But, also who's life time?....and I think I put that in also....as machines do not live///right?
And, the new hope, dashed now...Also said things of not going to continue to port to MAC because it cost too much or is too much work to do......and..oh well....Pass the dutchi on the left hand side it is with me.

But I retained some of the tweaks ...and work arounds for a day..perhaps later on up the road.

Best of the days to you...glad you found a pipe line to reason!

Hi.

Still wondering why my laptop and Cakewalk Pro aren't getting along together.

The original post of this thread is still an open issue for me.

The added photos are just extra language from Windows 7 Pro and Cakewalk Pro respectively that may help in putting together a plan for a remedy.

When opening Cakewalk Pro -if I don't close all my programs and restart my laptop before I get into Cakewalk then I still have to go through a series of button-pushing and knob-twiddling to get Cakewalk to recognize my Lexicon Alpha soundcard.

Thats just not realistic workflow for a professional computer music software/DAW.

Yes the 2007 Alpha model is an antique but I am seeing others with state-of-the-art soundcards posting the same questions about Cakewalk not recognizing their soundcard...no matter what walk of life it is built from.

Once my software is recognized by Cakewalk my soundcard wrapped in a proprietary plastic box performs like others external soundcards- just great.

Wondering, does the soundcard need to be powered?...where very few sound cards are self powered?

I think about upgrading my OS from Win 7 to 8 or 10.

Here in Cakewalk and out on the internet there are significant posts about audio and Windows 10.

Not all of them positive.

Are there others experiencing the same issue with Windows 7 Professional?

I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Lexicon.

I still have to think twice about making sure when I open my Cakewalk SONAR pro software.

*Is there a 3rd party software that can bridge between the DAW, OS, sound card drivers, and any other obstacle preventing Cakewalk Pro recognizing and facilitating a sound card?

Perhaps a timed messenger that "reminds" the Cakewalk software to choose my default soundcard?

Is there a solid fix for this?

Still wondering.
