Thanks Baps.
I've been living dangerously in the past (before Win 8) and, luckily never had any (major) issues with the upgrades.....now, I'm taking a more cautious route.
When you're younger (& less wiser), it's ok to live dangerously no? How else can ewe learn unless you get burnt first?

...
What's the best way to do a backup before taking the plunge? (I normally backup my OS (C: Drive) once a month to an internal HD...... (I have Acronis 13).

I suppose I should be backing it up to my 3TB external drive as well.

My backups are the work I do. The programs themselves is not an issue. Drivers, might be, but I keep a copy of those elsewhere.

Since I have 2 or 3 computers on at any time, when I write on this one, a copy will be made, after a while, that I place in a difference computer. All my work is backed up on 2 machines, so there are two copies.

The plug in drives should not interfere with W10 ... it's just data. Again, data is easy to backup ... but when you do a drive image, you are wasting 75% or more of its space on stuff that can easily be reinstalled. You have the disk for those and do not need to back them up!

The only things I have lost, was before I got a 2nd computer. Before then, wouldn't you know it, when you backed things up the thing you needed and wanted was not there, and couldn't be found ... that is annoying, and the reason why EVERYTHING that requires saving is OVER THERE, on a separate machine, or one of those external hard drives, of which I now have 3 totally inactive, and empty, and they are enclosures for old hard drives, that still are great for backups!

I did it yesterday, 8-9-15. I almost rolled back to W7 because my business software which keeps all my accounts online will ONLY work with IE. Then while I was backing up before the roll back I read where MS had hidden IE, it's here. So I can use both the new browser Edge? and IE. I went through the clear type setup twice but somehow everything looks a little washed out to me. Also, something I always hated when trying another browser was when importing favorites it would always move everything and put things in alphabetical order. I hate that because I put things in the order that I want them in and I know where they are. However, in IE (in Windows 10) they are in the same order they were in on W7! Yaaaa. I am not sure if I can get them in the order I want without doing it manually in the Edge browser.
I guess the only other thing is a reboot takes forever. Programs load fast enough but from power off to up and running is taking at least 3x as long, no problem if I just close the lid and sleep.... but I was thinking this was supposed to be faster all around.. oh well. I guess I will stay with it. I don't want to be an old guy driving a 1995 Buick in 2020... I'm still not getting a tattoo though.

That's strange Julien for it to take 3x as long to boot up......I've read that almost everything is faster/snappier on Win 10.
Is your boot drive an SSD? (that's what I have and it takes about 10 secs to reboot/power up).

No, this is a 7200RPM regular HD in a laptop. I am not venturing to move my DAW to 10 yet. For a while my pg up and pg dn buttons wouldn't sork nor my up/down cursors, I tried F7 but nada... then they just started to work. weird.

2nd machine was done last night.

It was the lappy (Win 7 Home Premium).

So far only one re-auth required. Navicat for MySQL (yet Navicat for Oracle was fine). Photoshop & Illustrator ran just fine. WAMP was blocked because of WWW Publisher (turned it off and WAMP was fine).

I'm just glad that IE is still here because the Edge browser is buggy, I think. Aside from all my favorites being resorted the up/down arrows and pg up / pg dn just don't work right, sometimes they work sometimes they don't sometimes they half work. I need to reboot a time or two and see if it speeds up. I am afraid to try going back to W7, what if things go wrong doing that. I really do not see a gain from W-10 but I know I'll have to adapt, at least on my everyday machine.

If you don't like it, the roll back works very well and it's fast. I installed 3 times and rolled back twice, it's a long story.

I too AM now in this mile high Win 10 club, but it was a shorter leap from 8.1 Pro.

Believe it or not, the first software I tried (in standalone) to test out (Arturia's Dubstep drum synth thingie) had to be reauthorized......which I couldn't do even after getting into my online account and getting the auth codes.

How is one to be a Proficient Dubstepper if I can't even groove to the beat?
