I think you have the whole 80's thing nailed. The rompler lofi strings added to the feel of it which I liked.
 
 I say if you like how it sounds why try to change its style wise? If you want a newer sound then by all means copy the other guys doing current material off the radio, but I would say to do what you feel true to yourself in doing IMO. There are still oldies stations on the radio for a reason.
