suggest you check out Orange Tree's group buy ongoing... I have all the guitars and you can get all the crunch you've ever dreamed about at 60% off... these are REAL guitars, deaply sampled, with a VERY powerful strum/riffing system, and a consistant "evolution" engine across the line.  OTS is the shizz... got most of the others but Greg rocks the best...

Then again, the latest entry is Three Body Tech and they have chunk up the wazzo.... with their first forey into guitar vst...."heavier 7strings" This thing kicks butt.  Lots of interaction with this new company and they are evoling this darling quickly based on our user feedback.

The advantage with these instruments is you get endless creative guitarings, awesome riffs, strums and sounds, while stirile libraries like ew's Ministry of Rock 1&2 are loopy crap in comparison... I've got um and other 8dio/ew/other such libraries and tired of them almost immediately.  Then again, different strokes for different folks!  But for the money, given this huge sale, it's a no brainer which way to go and YOU create... easily and endlessly

Disagree with others that guitar vst's can't do a bang up job... my Novax upgraded ancient Tele & Strat sit in a corner most of the time, as do my two Ibanez basses...Whilr I'm primarily a vocalist/songwriter, I've wanked on guitars for nearly 6 decades and what you can do with some of the more eligant offerings, like OTS's acoustics/electrics, is just mindboggling these days!

It's the perennial argument between a violinist and Bohemian violin... or guitarist vs   xyz.... and while nothing will replicate the totally intuitive free flowing stuff of a real SOLID player, I can play things on a VST I could NEVER get right on my actual instruments... and for RHYTHMS, CHUNKS, etc... you will be well served in the virtual universe...

I have GS2 and while it is okay, the best I ahve found so far (and I use all the time now) are the guitars with Sampletank 3. They are really cool, and the basic samples are so good you really do not need much in the way of effects. Add to these sounds "keyboard guitar technique" and you are good to go

I like Torch.  I can get a very usable chunk gtr sound using the "Tension 1" setting.  Very affordable.

Wow, Orange tree is great. I wonder if I can get product and a library together at a cost effective price, with this sale. Am looking into it.

although I think Strum isn't suitable since I only see Ac Guitar emulations (which are astounding in many ways).

Strum GS-2 does indeed have electric crunch banks

Yes, it does, I'm currently using Strum. Please check out its electric guitar before you rule it out.

+1 for Orange Tree, particularly with the current group buy. The guitars work with Kontakt player so you don't need to buy Kontakt. (some of their other products need the full version)

The strum engines are intuitive and versatile. Dracus has the best heavy palm mute sounds and can go far beyond its metal roots. Strawberry is the all round most versatile.

I use MusicLab's LPC (RealGuitar family) and I've been able to make it sound really good with Guitar Rig and have had good comments from guitarists.  As with all virtual instruments, it helps if you understand how the real instrument is played.  I also use RealStrat and RealGuitar.

A lot of people love Electri6ity, but I find it hard to use.

I have some surprisingly good samples on my old JV-1080 and my Tyros 2, but I usually go with a virtual instrument because it is much more flexible.

On any of them, are you using a palm mute articulation to get the 'clunk'? Or?

That's a great point.  Palm muting will get you really close to where you want to go.

Good luck on your search.
